I don’t think the TASP thing is a cover up, it actually kinda makes sence. They can’t wait until January to send invites because there wouldn’t be enough time to finish the application. I don’t think they would mind the smaller pool of people either, as they have limited spots to begin with. TASP also mentions they target URM so that may explain why some people got the email even though they reported lower scores.
@Bunnylionn
“They can’t wait until January to send invites” could equally be the reason CB released the scores to TA before it released them to the students or their schools.
Are the TASP invitees with 2014 PSAT 185, 188, 200 etc URM?
@Plotinus I’m Asian and I put Computer Science as major choice. No RSI email.
My 173 got me a Telluride email. I’m pretty sure my Asian ethnicity wasn’t the reason for the mail.
@Plotinus I simply don’t think there’s really a reason for Telluride to lie as the college board makes it clear on the website they receive scores. Furthermore I’m not sure about anyone else, but I received a 205 last year got the email and am a URM.
There’s also the fact that Telluride targets kids interested in humanities, so they might only send invites to the top scorers who marked something related to humanities as their intended major. That could also be the reason for lower scores getting an email.
If this thread makes it to 60 pages we should all make tinfoil hats.
Ok I am absolutely sure that the TASP email is based on this year’s PSAT because I got a 170 last year and I put Health/Medicine down as my major choice
Edit: Plus I’m Asian too so I’m not sure whether it has anything to do with ethnicity or not.
@Bunnylionn That’s weird! Perhaps it is by ethnicity because I scored a 206 last year and have never gotten a Telluride email. I’m Asian.
@plotinus My 185er is decidedly not URM. White male. We are from a really rural area but other than that? He also put computer engineering as his major choice. This whole thing is so weird. He was hoping the invitation was an indication that he had done better this year. He will just get to practice his patience by waiting a couple of weeks, I guess.
I actually called the College Board before I called TASP and that was a waste. The guy didn’t know what TASP was and didn’t take me seriously until I told him their web site specifically says they send scores to them. Then I had to tell him where on the site it said that, and after several times of being placed on hold I was told in a very convoluted way that they basically didn’t know what scores they had sent to them. :-j And didn’t know if they had sent them this year’s or not. It “wasn’t his department” and the department whose it WAS just doesn’t have a direct number I can call, gosh darn it. Being very nonconfrontational by nature, I just said “thanks anyway” and called TASP.
I am fine with him waiting until January to know, really. I was just trying to cut through the speculation and get some answers. Looks like I maybe raised more questions, though.
Can one of you intelligent kids or parents tie together all of the evidence haha?
This whole thing is weird . I honestly have a hard time believing it’s based on this year though because I didn’t do well on the practice test and found the actual test pretty hard. But then there’s all these different people saying all these different things ~X(
Yes, the reason I called TASP was to get some answers before January. The confusion and delay makes it so difficult to make decisions about whether to take the new SAT or the old SAT and whether I made national merit semifinalist. Very frustrating! CB has messed this up so badly for the class of 2017! They probably don’t care. They’ll make more money this way if we take the SAT more often!

Ok people, if this is not evidence of CB cover-up, I don’t know what is.
@Plotinus I don’t think so. CB representatives are inept for the most part. We know more than them about their own entity. They just have a script.
I did get the feeling that was the case more than anything, honestly. I’m not sure what it proves or doesn’t prove. I could just tell I wasn’t going to get anywhere with them.
@joeweller
So if you believe that Telluride sent out TASP invitations to non-URM sophomores with 170 PSAT in 2014, where are the other 180k+ invitations?
Also, this person was not reading from a script. He or she was consulting with a supervisor. Otherwise the answer would not have been convoluted and non-committal This is stonewalling. A script would have just said “We have not sent the 2015 PSAT scores out to Telluride or any other institution.”
The only thing I’m sure of is that this is really unfair to the class of 2017. I was going to sign up for the old SAT because I was sure I’d do bad on the new one, but now I’m a bit unsure.
I hate consiracy theories, but I figured this was a bit interesting. Our teachers had us create new emails for college related stuff. I’ve only used mine for the new PSAT and the Nov SAT, but that’s the email I got the TASP and Harvard Summer school invitations to.
@Plotinus
Agree it’s fishy but so far I haven’t heard of a single TASP invite to a student who did not take the PSAT in 2014. If you’re correct that these invites are based on 2015 scores, we would have heard from someone who took the test in 2015, received the invite, and did not take the test in 2014.
@Bunnylionn Did you take the PSAT in 2014, but just used a different email?
