@ekim5984, Tasp is for juniors, so I am thinking they don’t mail to sophomores. My sophomore daughter says she didn’t get any emails.
David Coleman has really, really messed with my Class of 2017. We’re his guinea pigs for all of his failing implementations, and I hate that.
Let’s get technical here…at least as technical as I can understand
Let’s get technical here… At least as technical as I can understand. Will the score be available 12AM January 7th or 8 AM?
Are you all juniors?
I am a sophomore and took the PSAT since our school administers it…
Just wondering if these emails and invites come only to juniors.
The SAT is written by ETS. CB is just the administrator. Is ETS also writing Common Core textbooks??? I thought the Parcc assessments were written by Pearson, but I have not followed that so closely.
I do think students who learn Common Core well will have an advantage, but it is also possible to self-study or get a tutor if necessary – the same options as exist currently.
@suzyQ7 you have much more faith in the College Board than I do at this point!
Just looked at my (Sophomore) D18’s CB account just for funzies. It does not show that she took the PSAT in October…so does that mean that she will not be able to access her scores? Her AP exam from last year is accessible.
At my school, because of the physical space limitations of a school-day test administration, sophomores weren’t allowed to take the PSAT. That seems unfair- they are at a disadvantage to kids who are taking the PSAT for a second time as a junior.
@studious99 They did the same at our school (are you in TX by chance?) I was very very upset about it. Our high school wants a standardized test for transfer students and the list is very short for what is age appropriate and accessible for a homeschool student so we use the PSAT. This year they wouldn’t let my 8th grader take the test at their school (as my older two did for the same reason) even though they are the ones requiring it! They wouldn’t allow my 10th grader to take the test either even though he is registered for the March SAT and NEEDS his PSAT score to know what to study for!
I pulled the 10th grader out of school for half a day and they both tested in a large neighboring district with homeschoolers and private school kids that did not offer the PSAT.
The all neighboring school districts not only encourage sophomores to take the PSAT, they even pay for it! So far ours is they only school that I know that limited testing to Juniors. I agree with you that it is totally unfair.
Everyone in our district had to pay for it. So, even though it was on a Wednesday, there were still only motivated testers. If this was the case in the entire state, our curve will be tighter than most states.
If it helps, I scored in the 99th percentile last year on the PSAT (when I was a sophomore) and did not get an email from Telluride… hopefully it was a mistake because otherwise it looks like my scores went down this year:(
In the past, TASP has typically sent invites to those scoring in both the 98th and 99th percentile.
Hope this helps and good luck to everyone:)
Ms DS 16 scored in the 99th percentile across the board on the 2014 PSAT as sophomore. No Telluride emails but he has gotten all of the most selective college pay programs marketing emails & snail mailings.
On the new PSAT, the reading section is easier than the one from the old SAT. No odd vocab or irritating short passages. Also, the writing is WAY easier and more practical. The math section is more difficult, that I will admit. You will need to be proficient in Algebra 2 or know precalc to get through it easily (which explains why many thought it was hard).
Overall, I don’t think the test is “easier”. The math section was hard for a lot of people… and it’s 1/3 of the test.
Do you think CB has identified the cut off scores yet? I don’t want to get my hopes up just b/c I’ve received the TASP email and stuff.
I messed up my december SAT so I was debating whether or not to take the January one…but I can’t even see if I should just take the new SAT b/c CB won’t even release our PSAT scores…
If the reading/writing is easier, the math kids are going to score extremely well. The math has always been way too easy for your top math kids, with too many perfect scores, and penalties too big for careless errors.
Yesterday I posted a query three times on the Cb Twitter page: “Some juniors have received TASP 2016 invitations. Have the 2015 junior PSAT scores been released to Telluride Association?”
I have not received any response.
I also posted the same query on the CB SAT Twitter page.
No response.
The last two times I posted queries, I received responses within hours.
@Plotinus Interesting… It seems like they would respond unless they had reason not to. In this case, the reason not to looks pretty suspicious. Let us know if you get a response.
I don’t know when they shut down, but it appears that they are closed until the 28th. Needless to say, you probably won’t be getting a response any time soon.
I didn’t think the test was easier, per se. Certain sections, yes. The writing section was a lot simpler. Reading required you to think more, and I feel like the evidence-based questions might have tripped some people up. Math seemed about the same: none of the crazy circle equations from Khan Academy, but there was a bit of a time squeeze on the no-calculator section.
I’m curious about the RSI emails. Only a few people have received them, compared to those who received TASP emails.
I think this thread is going to be active and full of speculation and complaining until NMSFs are released in September.
@Plotinus that is definitely strange. The CollegeBoard twitter account always answers my queries promptly as well.
