@foliontai Hmm, but doesn’t a -7 with a 99th percentile seem kind of off? I mean, great job on your score, I just don’t know how missing that much gives you that high of a percentile… Now I’m afraid that reading and writing hold too much of an influence on this PSAT score…
@garyasho2 Doesn’t mean they hold too much influence. She said that she was also top 1% in math, so that score didn’t hurt her. Math is 1/3 and the English sections make up 2/3. So yes they do have twice the influence, but that doesn’t mean math is pointless.
Anyone else have scores/percentiles they can share?
oh. MY goodness. just heard that scores were released, logging into College Quickstart, FREAKED OUT out of pure terror that my score was so low, then realized that it was my score from last year. at least I had my daily dose of adrenaline.
good luck to all of those who find out their scores tomorrow!
@garyasho2 I will say, though, the minus 7 and 99th percentile in math is a bit strange. I don’t see how missing that many would keep you at that point, that’s why I’m thinking the scores may be a glitch. Maybe not the actual scores, but the percentages.
@ayraify Haha, that is if you have counselors who actually tell you your score. Does anyone know exactly when scores are released on Thursday? Midnight? 4AM Eastern?
@garyasho2 The way I see it, 99th percentile doesn’t actually say very much. Considering that around 4.5 million people took the test, the 99th percentile still leaves a pretty large amount of people. It is also likely that I am on the very very low end of the 99th percentile.
But this may just be getting defensive because I really want the scores to be accurate…
@tigerrocks13 No one here has reported getting lower than 99th percentile, so I don’t know. Maybe we are all smart on this thread and got 99th percentile? Or maybe the scores were really just a farce.
Any idea when the cutoffs for each state will be listed by NM?
@garyasho2 Well at the same time, not everyone who got their scores reported it, so maybe only the people in the 99th percentile…reported it?
Regardless of the percentiles of the scores, we now all at least have some general insight of the curve and can predict our own scores.
To those of you who saw your scores: Can you please share how many you missed on each section and your corresponding score?
@garyasho2 That was my same thought. There’s just no way that all what, like 15 people who reported scores so far were in the top 1%. I mean I guess it’s possible… it just reeks of a farce to me.
@foliontai You don’t have to be defensive, I am already envious of your score. I would be extremely confident that you got NMSF. My strong suit is math, and my weakest is reading and writing, so I’m worried that a -7 on R+W will be in the 90th percentile as opposed to a -7 on math being in the 99th percentile.
@FutureMMAChamp Even if I didn’t get top 1%, if I had spent a lot of time on this thread talking with people about the nerves and whatnot, I’d tell, and I think most others would too.
Another thing, there were definitely two percentiles given for each subscore at QuickStart. I didn’t spend too much time looking at it, so I can’t remember what each one was exactly, but my math score was 99th percentile for one of them and 98th percentile for the other. Meanwhile, my reading and writing scores were 99th percentile for both.
My very fuzzy memory makes me think that one of the percentile measures was just overall in the whole student population and that was where my 99th percentile for math came in. And the other one was a little more specific like “among 11th graders in your range” this is your percentile. So, my guess is that my score was very low in the 99th percentile and if you take out the outliers, it is actually in the 98th percentile.
I can’t be sure though because my score report that I downloaded only says 99th percentile.
@tigerrocks13 I think what @garyasho2 meant was that you could absolutely bomb math and still get a decent index score (which would benefit those who are better at R/W but neither benefiting nor hurting those who are better at math) but bombing reading and/or writing would get you a relatively bad score (again benefiting those who are better at R/W but hurting those who are better at math)
@tigerrocks13 There’s always the possibility that today, CB was doing a test run and assigning random scores to random people to actually see if the online system works and scores are able to be posted and seen on the website. If so, then the scores may not be legitimate at all.
@pillowspillows Ah, yeah that makes sense. I feel like I’m in that same boat. I felt great on math. But I could easily see myself getting 3-4 wrong on the English… hope that doesn’t take me out of the running.
@garyasho2 Now that I’m thinking about it more, I’m beginning to lean towards thinking something like that is what happened. I just highly doubt that everyone on here is getting 99th percentile.
@pillowspillows Yes! Thanks for clarifying. If I get -0 on math and a -3 on reading and writing which kicks me out of NMSF as opposed to a -0 on R+W and -12 on math that still allows me to get NMSF, I will be extremely angry.
