I took my PSATs and SATs a few weeks apart from each other. I did A LOT better on the SATs, which is a little funny.

196 sophomore year, 230 junior year.

PSAT: Freshman: 196 -> Sophomore: 204 (around) -> Junior: 229
SAT: Junior: 2210 -> Senior: 2330

Guess I got “older and wiser” on the PSAT…? Didn’t really study for that. Studied on the SAT though, I think that helped a lot.

Freshman year PLAN: 28 composite (predicted ACT score); translates to an 1860 on the SAT scale
Sophomore year PSAT: 210 (63 CR + 74 M + 73 W)
Sophomore year SAT: 2120 (690 CR + 700 M + 730 W) <– was really sick that day…
Junior year PSAT: 233 (77 CR + 79 M + 77 W)

I definitely seem to have improved…

167 freshman year, 202 sophmore year, 229 junior year, 2370 SAT

Sorry about not replying to your post! I was in the same predicament as you were in when I was a sophomore, albeit a little worse off (175). I worked hard over the summer and well into the junior before taking the PSAT. Essentially study what you are worst at: for example, if you are bad at CR like I was, keep doing several CR tests from the Official SAT Guide (only use this book for practice tests!) and read the tips from books such as Princeton Review/Barrons (I personally used Kaplan’s SAT 2400, but I’ve heard bad things about Kaplan from fellow CCers so I don’t want to point you in the wrong direction). Also, I definitely recommend buying Direct Hits for vocabulary. I hadn’t heard of it until I went on CC, and I was able to get into a program where I reviewed the books for the company for free. It’s not very expensive, and essentially all the tough words on the vocab section I knew because of Direct Hits (I went from a -4 on Vocab in Sophomore year to a -0 in Junior year). If you want some more help just ask!

BTW, I noticed that you only had one post on CC (that was your only post). CC is a great site so keep on using it, it helps a ton in the college process. My cousin who got into Yale was the one who told me about it. It’s a great resource for all things related to college and makes the entire applying process a lot easier.

185 sohpmore year
215 junior year.

took nov 09 test and got 2060 =[.

@Fledgling Is it even possible to get 79 in math on the psat? I missed one grid-in last year and found my score had dropped to a 75. :/

my PSAT improved from a 175(pre-soph) to a 208(soph) with moderate studying and general knowledge of the test. We’ll see how the important PSAT fares… Missed one math question [grid-in, again! BAH!]

^Yeah, it’s possible to get that score. This year there was a very generous curve on the math section where -1 = 79.

Just got my scores back.
Sophomore PSAT: 165
Junior year PSAT: 205
Junior year SAT: 2300+ (hopefully)

Anything’s possible. I was able to improve 40 points just by taking a couple practice tests and noticing patterns in what the CB was looking for.

MichaelS: Did you do anything to get your SAT’s up to the 2100’s?

166(freshman)=>191(junior)
