What were your PSAT/SAT scores as a sophomore?

I just figured out my PSAT score (not definite, but a great chance) and it is a 179 (CR: 50, M: 70, W: 59).... something I was not expecting. I'm applying to a school that only has upper schoolers (11th & 12th) and is a math/science focus school. One of the things they look at is your test scores. I'm super nervous because now I feel like I did such a terrible job and I won't get accepted (51/130 students ea. yr) because my score is so low.

What were your scores (PSAT & SAT) sophomore year? How much did they improve the next year(s)?

Went from a 154 sophomore year to a 206 junior year.

Went from a 228 to a 231.

My son scored 179 in freshman year, 193 in sophomore.

We are kind of waiting on this year’s (Junior) but believe it will be around 220.

Remember that kids in CC are super-high achievers. Your competition is not the kids at CC. Your chances at that school depend on the pool of applicants to the school.

Good luck!

161 sophomore year->207 junior year

207 --> 216 or something like that

219 sophomore year, 227 junior year

Freshman SAT: 1970
Sophomore PSAT: 210
Junior PSAT: 227
Junior SAT: 2340

Sophomore PSAT: 233
Sophomore SAT: 2390

Does anyone know when they come out and how we receive them??

@spiral7 I believe they were delivered to your school the first week of December, then the school decides a time to release them. Some schools don’t like to give them out immediately because they prefer to organize a big conference or something to discuss what these scores mean, and this takes a while because counselors are usually busy with seniors getting in their recommendations and everything. I remember my sophomore year, they gave them back to us after winter break. However, scores are released online the first week of January. You will get an email. If you really can’t wait, most counselors are okay with releasing individual scores. I asked my counselor to receive my scores early Junior year because I wanted to use winter break to study for my SAT based off of my PSAT scores.

To OP, I got in the 190s my sophomore year and in 180s my junior year. Unlike many people, I went down. Not sure what the cause was but I don’t really care to speculate since it means nothing. My SAT is far above either of the scores.

@livelaugh7 I am also a sophomore, I am from PA, and I used the method on here to check scores and I am not at all happy with my scores. My scores were as follows…

M: 67 (97 percentile)
W: 65 (98 percentile)
CR: 54 (85 percentile ouch) :open_mouth:

Total: 186

I am hoping that the CR and Math scores were just a fluke because the night before the test, I was worrying that I would choke horribly on the test and got 5 hours of sleep, and well I guess I did. :((
Does this mean that I will not be able to attend a good university after high school??

@livelaugh7 I feel your pain.

Also, @livelaugh7, this score was with about 1-2 hours of preparation the night before.

@averagewhiteguy‌ How exactly did you find your scores? Did they email them to you? I know they are going to have a PSAT overview night at my school but I’m wondering if I can see the scores before then.

Also, I don’t think colleges look at your sophomore PSAT scores.

@sumobats,

What did you do to improve SAT scores far above? Did you attend SAT training classes, hired a tutor?

181 both years, lol.

Yes there is a method to find your scores. It is fairly time consuming but is definitely reliable. Here is what you need to do.

Go to <a href=“Student Score Reports”>Student Score Reports; and sign in to your account.

Go to <a href=“Student Score Reports”>Student Score Reports;
This page will show you the first question and will say at the top whether or not you got it right or wrong.

Change the ‘1’ at the end of the url to ‘2’ and repeat for all of the question numbers, until you have gone through all the CR questions.

Repeat steps 2-3 but with <a href=“Student Score Reports”>Student Score Reports; for the math and <a href=“Student Score Reports”>Student Score Reports; for writing.

Count how many you got wrong and then calculate your score with the curve found here from <a href=“Understanding PSAT/NMSQT Scores - SAT Suite”>https://www.collegeboard.org/pdf/psat/understanding-psat-nmsqt-scores-guide_0.pdf</a></li>

@dsi411 No they did not email them to me, there is a method of finding them online. I just posted it.

@dsi411 To do this method, as you can see, you do not need an access code.
