How can I increase my PSAT score?

You can increase your PSAT by learning SAT test taking strategies from books like the blue book or princeton review and by doing practice tests. A lot of them. Also, read challenging books of your interest actively.

Good luck!

I took the PSAT as a sophomore and had a composite score of 173. Critical Reading: 56, Math: 64 Writing: 53. I’m kind of disappointed in my score although my peers says that it is pretty good. I really hope to improve my critical reading score, but it is quite frustrating…any ideas?

Read, read, and read.

For writing, I recommend the Ultimate Guide to SAT Grammar by Erica Meltzer.

It just focuses on writing?

Yeah. Grammar- writing

Is there any books that can focus on critical reading as well? ~Thanks

Erica Meltzer’s book is simply fantastic. She recently published a prep book for the CR test – http://www.amazon.com/The-Critical-Reader-Erica-Meltzer/dp/1479224715/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391583592&sr=8-1&keywords=erica+meltzer+for+critical+reading+and+grammar. It’s not exactly light reading, but it is also very very good.

Focus on prep for both the PSAT and the SAT- specific PSAT prep books are a waste of money,. Like other posters mentioned, there are a lot of great SAT books that will also help for the PSAT.
The SAT should really be your focus. The PSAT may seem more immediate, but the absolute most it can do is give you a chance at a scholarship if you fill other criteria. (It will do absolutely nothing for you, AFAIK, if you’re not NMF, which also requires a good GPA and class record, a good behavior record, an essay, and a school recommendation. After that you can potentially receive scholarships from colleges, even before you hit NMS, which is really not so worth it.) The SAT, however, for better or for worse, is what EVERY college that you apply to will actually be looking at. Make sure that you don’t neglect it at the expense of the PSAT.

So…if you master the SAT, the PSAT should be a easy? Thanks guys!
