no worries. It’s a common misunderstanding.

But to all that have gotten letters, are they for National Achievement? And if so, are they letters of commendation? Or what content do the letters entail?

I called NMSC, and was referred to educational services. They said that they don’t notify anyone of their status until Sept. Plus, the letters sent to the schools are not concerning anyone in particular; they are only meant to fix errors.
But, I’m starting to think that they are doing more than that, according to everyone else.

My D received her letter a couple of weeks ago. Score: 224 CA. But, the letter was for National Merit, not Achievement. It just told her that she is one of the top 50,000 nationwide and can choose two colleges to notify. I don’t think the Achievement information comes out until September.

I got a 213 (MD) but have yet to hear anything, I have received nothing in the mail or through the school, is this usual, I assume I made some cutoff?

I got a 205 in NC, and my principal got a letter a while back that basically said I had qualified for the National Achievement Scholarship or something. I believe that we’ll hear more from NA/NM in the fall

223, CT. Another kid at my school got 219 and got commended. Got a call down to the office by my principal (I thought I was in trouble lol) and he personally handed me the letter… I don’t know about anyone else but is this a big thing elsewhere as well?

MD, 223 - Semifinalist.
Btw, sh3llshock, same here. I was told that I was needed at a meeting with our school principal and administrator. Thinking I did something wrong, I nervously asked what the meeting was about, and I was told that I was a semifinalist.

And now for the running for finalist. I want that 2.5k ■■■■■ :D

just to be clear, you’re referring to National Achievement right?
or are you talking about National Merit? Because they are 2 completely seperate competitions.

i live in texas and i was the cutoff for commended. it’s 201. and there’s never been a cut off that low ever in texas. texas actually has much higher scores than a lot of the country

For commended actually 201 sounds pretty standard. Actually I’m not sure commended is even state dependent, I was under the impressions state representation only matters for semifinalist status.

For semifinalist status, however, I do think I remember seeing Texas being a state with one of the higher cut-offs.

I got mine a while back, there were 2 people at my school, I had 229 and the other had 225. IL. A bunch of friends of mine got commended last year, they were around 204-210

You are correct, however I think you, and a few others on this thread are referring to the National Merit scholarship program rather than the National Achievement scholarship program.
