PSAT Prediction Thread

yeah me too^
i think it only works if you took the psat last year

Prediction: 220 ish
NMSF: Maybe not - very high cutoff for my state

Do people actually prep for the PSAT? Isn’t that a little extreme?

Not really, considering what you can get if you do well on it. It’s not as important as the SAT, but a lot of people think it’s still worth preparing for.

Preparing for the PSAT? That’s not extreme at all. Most high school students (even the ones who get 50th percentile / 150) still spend days and hundreds of dollars preping for it. People want to get that scholarship and the award that some colleges wonder about when they dont see it.

I went to a PSAT academy. Nothing strange about it.

People seriously do all that for the PSAT? I just saw it as a practice SAT and went in cold. I got a 225 and nmsf, but I still see it as “just the PSAT.”

Junior at my school got a 219. But he got a 28 ACT in 8th grade, so I think he is more of an ACT person. Anyway, he’ll be a NMSF (state: MN).

I didn’t realize people were prepping. But then, I’ve never prepped for a standardized test, so I guess it’s just a different culture?

If I got a 1730 on the SAT in 9th grade, would a 200 be a realistic 10th grade PSAT score?

I just got my score from counselor and i totally messed it up. i am a sophomore so i have one more chance at next year but i am just so mad at myself. I stuided SAT during the whole summer but my reading skill did not have any improvement!!!

Honestly, don’t worry about it. You can’t even be considered for NMSQT as a soph. anyway, so it’s no big deal at all. Next year’s when it matters, not this time around. You’ve got time.

I predit:
math:70-75
writing:60-65
reading:55-60

We’ll see what how accurate this is when I get them back.

Yikes, I’m confused. I’m a sophomore, and my scores on each section aren’t very good (60s), yet I’m in the 96% in CR, 85% in M, and 99% in W (of sophomores). Why are my percentiles so high yet my scores so low?

I’m in the 92% of juniors, overall, too.

My selection index is a mere 187 though. :frowning: Oh well, I still have next year. Math killed me, yet I consider myself far better at math than English. My math grade is practically 100% this year.

^^^There are a lot of ‘dumb’ people in places you don’t know about. For example, some schools give these tests to everyone, regardless if they want to take it or not. So plenty of people are going to do a lot worse than you. Actually, the 60s aren’t bad unless you are aiming really high, like most of CC. When I got a 177 freshman year, people were really impressed. When I got a 214 last year, people nearly fell out of their seats :)

Well I thought I did really well and even National Merit caliber (due to the percentiles) until I came on here and found out 200s are expected. :P

Oh well, I took the test cold turkey anyways. :D

I’m still confused as to why math killed me so much though, oh well.

i expect..
math: low 70s (horrible)
reading and writing 65-70
i think i get them on monday

Ok. So you got 177 frosh year, and I got [the equivalent to] 173, so if I you got a 214 as a sophomore, I’ll get at least a 200? :D

KevRus, NMSF is only for juniors.

i predicted 224, i got a 223. Knew i got -3 in writing, I thought -3 =69 instead of 68

I predicted a 210 or less.. I didn’t think I’d have a 40 point improvement!
Got a 219! One pt away from 220. =[ dang it. haha
