psat score

how highly do most colleges look at your psat score, meaning if you aren't a semi-finalist or finalist is it less likely to get in??
especially for columbia university and univeristy of pennslyvania??

Your PSAT score is supposed to be a predictor of how you do on the SAT. However, with lots of extra studying I pulled my SAT score way up from where it might have been with the PSAT as a predictor. In my experience, getting or not getting semifinalist, finalist, or commended doesn't help or hurt you that much; if you get something from National Merit, great, if you don't, it's not that huge of a deal. Study lots and do well on the SAT: colleges care much, much more about the SAT than the PSAT.

my SAT score was 430 points higher than my PSAT score. it doesnt really mean all that much other than if you are going to be a NM scholar or not.
but if you don't do well on the PSAT you aren't necessarily screwed for the SAT. just study and you will do better

okay thanks so much!!
the thing is i took the sat last year and actually got a "higher" score than what this year's psat score predicted...
so i am just glad to know not having any award for it isn't going to badly hurt my chances..

The schools don't see your PSAT score at all unless it is part of your high school transcript (I don't think it is usually). You can ask at your high school.
