Can someone explain in detail the difference between the PSAT and the SAT? Also, can you prepare yourself for the PSAT? I heard that you take this your junior year (I'll be a junior) Any books, etc?

Thanks!

The PSAT is the same as the SAT, but it doesn’t really count - it’s more of a practice test for the real SAT (hence the pre- in front of it). I don’t think it has the essay portion, though. Also, it’s graded out of 240 points rather than 2400, and each part is worth 80 points instead of 800. If you want to prep for the PSAT, just buy SAT books (i.e., the official blue book, direct hits, any other practice books you want or need, etc.).
