Hey guys! I am a little bit iffy as to whether i qualified for national merit or not. I missed 5 questions in reading already because I skipped them and could not return to them in time. However, i think i missed minimal (less than two) on both writing and reading. What are my chances for NM in Texas? Does NM have an effect on college admissions, or is it purely for money?
It can give a boost in college admissions. A few colleges give large scholarships for it, and quite a few give small scholarships. No one knows what the cut offs will look like – you can never know for sure, and with a whole new test this year, it is really uncertain. Remember that you can’t discuss specific test questions. Texas usually scores pretty high compared to other states, so the cut off is a pretty high score. The PSAT can affect your admission. If you do really well and become a finalist, it’ll help a lot. If you do poorly, that’s ok, because you can take the SAT as well. There are a multitude of scholarship opportunities outside of the NMSQT
