Psat?

When should I take the PSAT? I'm going into ninth grade, should I take it this year or the next? I'm also taking the SSAT this year[again] and I'm wondering if its similar.

Advice?

Just take it in 9th grade, and then hit the books hard before you take it in 11th.

[that was quick, lol]

Thanks :), anyone else?

Sure, take it in 9th grade. You’ll get a good feel for the actual testing conditions, and there’s no reason not to, really.

The PSAT is given once a year at your high school. Some schools offer it to freshmen and sophomores, but the test that counts for the National Merit program is the one you take junior year.

I don’t think there any downsides to taking the PSAT as a freshman.

ok, so I’ll take it this year. Any test prep suggestions? Buy a book, study for hours on end? What?

Sparknotes.

^how would sparknotes help when preparing for a standardized test? o.0

They have a test prep center for the SAT’s, ACT’s, AP, etc.

Take it in 9th grade, then take it in 10th, then 11th …

Okay, so I just checked out the test format on CollegeBoard. The only thing that I would really have trouble with is the math. What should I do to study for that? At my school we’re not v. ‘studying’ oriented and as a result I don’t really know how to study for math. [Everything else I’m fine]

I really wouldn’t recommend studying or it; just take the test to get a feel for it.

Yeah, I usually say that about the SSAT but I’m REALLY bad at math. Like, REALLY

Me too. So you better study HARD for the next 2 or whatever years.

I agree with Sandwich girl. I think that you should take it cold the first time (in 9th or 10th grade). Do not study at all. You will get the test booklet and your answers back, so you can see exactly what you missed. That will give you a better idea of what you don’t know. Then it is easier to study.
