PSU BA/MD program?

i am a sophomore taking world history ap, psych ap, chem ap, pre calculus honors, latin 4 honors, art honors, and eng honors

next year (junior) i am considering -
us history ap
bio ap
calc ab ap
eng lang ap
us history ap
statistics ap
latin 5 honors
art honors

senior year i will take physics b ap; calc bc ap; eng lit ap, us gov ap; env sc ap; latin ap; art
for accelerated programs does it matter which physics ap (b or c) i take. if it does i should take phys honors in junior yr and phys c ap in senior yr;
how important is language for accelerated programs or HYP?
i have 4 years already (2 in middle school) - do i have to end with an ap? (will be in senior)
pleeeease help!

I’m no expert on this- but I would guess that the guaranteed medical programs would rather have you take an advanced science course (AP bio, Chem, Neurobio or really any advanced bio elective at your school) instead of an AP for a language, that is, if you HAD to choose one of the other.

who here is going to prog weekend?

u got news about the prog weekend already?
I am going, but I haven’t heard back from them yet

yeah, i got a letter about it (which i have misplaced)…but it’s april 16th to 20th. most of the stuff is on the 17th and 18th.

i’m not sure if i’m going yet, actually…i still have to hear back from umdnj…
:/

im going!
you dont have to confirm enrollment to go right? its just like a “heres a taste of the psu/jeff program” thing?

i think you do have to confirm, so that they can make arrangements…if you have the phone number to call (which was on the letter), could you by any chance PM me?

you do not have to confirm that you will be attending the program. I am not sure about the others, but I have not had a chance to meet the program advisor yet. I will be there on Friday night and on Saturday. So if anyone else is coming, I will see you there…

they don’t care what APs you’ve selected to take as long as you have some on your transcript

does “sanguine” mean optimistic?

thanks for your op. is sat2 chem reqd or is sat 2 bio good enough for accl med programs

yeah; that’s all i can be at this point, for these aps that are coming up

BE HARSH, any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I was accepted to the program this year and will be starting in 9 days for summer session. I may be able to answer some questions.

The biggest thing is to make sure that you show and INTEREST in medicine. Through your activities and essays, make sure they know that you really want to be a doctor.

I took no SAT IIs. I did not think they were necessary, and evidently neither did the admissions people at Penn State/Jefferson.

Other than showing interest in medicine, just make sure your grades are stellar and AT LEAST a 2100 on the SATs.

Let me know any questions and I will try to answer them.

Does this program accept transfers? I had a 1500(CR and Math) and a 2200/2400 on the sats…HS gpa was 3.8 unweighted, and a 4.1 weighted…I have over 600 hours of volunteer work at various hospitals and doctors officieces…Next year I am starting at Emory, where I can hopefully maintain a 3.5 and I will be doing internships at Emory’s School of Public Health, and the Center for Disease Control…Any shot for an out of state transfer?

Some useful information for this program:

[PSU/JMC combined BA/MD guaranteed program - Student Doctor Network Forums](<a href=“PSU/JMC combined BA/MD guaranteed program | Student Doctor Network”>PSU/JMC combined BA/MD guaranteed program | Student Doctor Network)

PMM Program, you seem to be a student ambassador for the program, can you please help with some of my questions?

On reading this forum, I found two adverse comments about the program: one said that in the first 2 years the competition was “cut-throat”, and another said that to keep a 3.5 GPA was “NOT” easy. Others did write it is “laid back”, “they want to pass you”, and I think you wrote that the attrition rate is only zero or one per year. Did you mean that of the 30 or so who start the program, at least 29 (or 28) matriculate at Jefferson, or what is the real number?

The program website shows the curriculum for the 6 and 7 year program; but would all courses have to be done even if the student’s AP scores meet PSU’s credit policies? i.e., does the program require students take alternative science courses if the student meets the required science courses with AP credit?

Also, even though a 27 MCAT is a national average, and apparently the program gives you three chances, does the 9 in each section have to be obtained in one setting?

Thanks

this is for PennStateJeff

Can you post your stats (test scores, GPA, ECs, APs, research, etc) and everything you’ve done to get into the 6 yr. program? And if you could give how you responded to the essays and interviews too, that’d be great. Thanks!

I’m going to be a junior, so advice would be great too.
