PSU BA/MD program?

where the hell is everyone getting this idea that only the interview matters after youre offered one? only a small handful of schools do that…

that is why you always hear stories about kids with seemingly poor interviews still getting in…they look at your entire application. again, sometimes even with a strong interview you get rejected.

brother went through program and interviewed kids when he was a 1st year jeff student. he said the slate was wiped clean, but maybe things changed

the only reason we’re saying it because they physically told us that several times… they might have lied though?

yea but im seeing people say this for every program…there is no way its like that for every school.

Hey guys calm down. We’ll never know the insider stories/policy of each school, so relax. For the devoters with passion and good records, most will get in eventually, with BSMD or w/e means.

why doesnt your kid post instead of you?

zboy, D refers me to this column which i enjoy. She is busy w/several interviews and catching up w/school work after taking leave to travel E coast. Although she does not post, we talk a lot and we can share in this forum for everyone’s benefit.

Does she like football? How 'bout that JoePa!

Anyone know when we’ll receive our decisions? In this thread last year, people got them March 12, but the year before it was at the very end of March.

According to the director of the program, they will meet the second week of March to decide. You should hear some thing soon after that. If they meet early in the second week, I guess they could send out notifications as early as the end of next week. Penn State has some say in the final picks.

the director of the program at penn state is my prof for a class, and he’s going to jefferson on march 18th to talk about it with the director there, so i’m guessing after march 18th!

oh man, i can’t wait for the results, and there’s so much longer to wait!

Based on cricktman’s inside info, I guess that we will have to wait till the last week of March!

It could be worse, like Rice/Baylor- have to wait till April to find out if get interviewed!

Hi all-

I’m a sophomore who is looking at the program- could someone look at my stats so far and tell me what my chances are?

GPA: 4.75 or 3.91 unweighted
PSAT: 218 (80 CR, 70 M, 68 W)
First in class of ~450

AP:
9th: U.S. Govt, Human Geo (5/5)
10th: World History, Spanish Lang, Calc BC
11th: US History, Chemistry, Statistics (or Calc III at local university (CU)), Spanish Lit, English Lit & Comp
12th (probably): European Hist., Biology, Other LA AP, misc. courses

College Courses I’ve taken concurrently:
9th: Expo writing (B+), Intro to HTML (A), “BITS” computer science course (A-) Online through Harvard Extension school
10th: Intro to C, PHP & Javascript (A), Spanish Conversation (A), Physics (B+; second sem. prob A/A-) (Span and Phys at CU, Comp Sci at Harvard)

I might take Chinese at CU next year too, depending on my schedule.

Extracurricular:
MUN (various awards)
Medical Club
Tennis
Intense Star Trek fan (yes… I’m a Trekkie/Trekker)

I will probably start volunteering at a hospital either over the summer or at the start of next year- I can’t start until I turn 16.

I just took the SAT today, actually, so hopefully that went well. Any ideas on whether or not it looks like I would get in? I would love so sooo much to get into the program!

Thanks!

Kiwigirl - You are in 9th grade. Just relax. Enjoy life ahead of you.

Sophomore = 10th grade.

you’re a sophomore so that SAT score is fine right now, but focus on raising it. i wouldn’t say relax and enjoy the life ahead of you, satacer, since most people who applied for programs planned what they’d do throughout high school to make sure they were competitive applicants specifically for these programs (shadowing, research, etc.) that perhaps we normally wouldn’t do

Where can we see decisions? It is past the second week of March soon.

Yeah, I’m wondering that too, globaldreamer. According to cricketman1991 above, it should be fairly soon but according to past years they only received notification on March 30th…I can’t wait that long!!!

I really want to get into this program but my stats aren’t that good, they are decent but not amazing. I am a sophomore and I hope by next year I can boost my gpa (3.7) up. I was wondering can loosing a drastic amount of weight lets say 80lbs be put on a college application, what does it look like. I thought it would make me seem dedicated and committed but I am not sure. Also what do you think is the most important thing that the program will look at?

Thanks.
