@jameswang did your portal just update today?

Is admissions opened tomorrow and since status have been updating over the weekend, does that mean tomorrow most of the Friday status will be updated again tomorrow since that would be three days?

He applied to University park chemical engineering. We are out of state, so not sure if that takes longer or not.

For RyanCollegeBound and others who wonder why students apply to several colleges instead of only one.
My daughter has an overall average GPA of 3.0 due her low grades in freshman and part of sophomore year.
Her junior and senior GPA of 3.8 cannot raise it significantly. Although her New York regent exams average in the 90’s, ACT 32, and SAT of 2110, physics 730, math 700 and chemistry 690, she has no confidence in being admitted to any of her top schools. She loves Penn State U.P. but in the process of applying needed to keep her options open. Most students and parents prioritize their college choices into a list and work their way down that list according to where the student gets accepted and the financial aid support.
Schreyers honors college her top choice, apparently does not take into account the SAT subject tests and state regional exams, so her chance of getting in is slim.
Students need a back up. Which is worse? being rejected by your one and only application and missing the deadlines for everywhere else, or being accepted by an alternative college that really wants you.
So far to her surprise, she has got accepted by 6 out of 9 colleges. Her 3 reach schools decisions are still pending of which Schreyers is one. If she does not get in, then obviously one of her lower choice schools would have to be accepted.
Plus remember until students go and spend a night or visit on an accepted student day, they may find that their first choice is no longer their #1.
BTW, she applied the first week of November and is waiting for a decision.

Accepted University Park to the College of Communications for summer session on Friday
Major: Journalism
Gpa: 3.3
SAT: 1560
Class rank:top 15%
Extracurriculars: FBLA, Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Indoor Drumline, ELL Peer Tutor, School Sportswriter, School Sports Reporter, School Sports Broadcaster.
Essay: Terrific. I’m a miracle baby, so I shared my story and why penn state is my home.

I applied on November 18th, so it was basically a two month wait. I’m going out on a limb and saying that the “coming days”+ campus picture correlate with each other. As a borderline candidate with another campus selected, I didn’t expect to get in. So for applicants waiting at the moment, the campus picture is a big one!!

I was notified via MyPennState and not mail. I have yet to receive the mail confirmation which scares me haha. But depending on where you live(I’m a PA resident), expect the online notification first! Hope this helped!

We are!

@ronredd96 - Congratulations!! I was wondering if you applied for summer only because I also put journalism as my major, have a 4.0 GPA and SAT 1760, tons of EC’s but I only applied for Fall. My status changed on Friday but the picture also changed to my alternate, which tells me that is where I was given admission to. I’m wondering if it’s because I applied for Fall only, because I’m confused why people with lower stats are getting in while others are given the alternates? I probably won’t find out til tomorrow but from what I’m reading the pix is a pretty good indicator.

Well my daughters picture changed to Altoona on Friday. No confirmation yet, but she is extremely disappointed and will probably commit to Temple now. Her GPA is 3.8 and SAT of 1800. She applied to Smeal and did check the summer session too. I think she will call admissions once she gets confirmation and see if she can be wait listed for UP. Any advice?

@David0321 - is that 4.0 GPA weighted or unweighted, because for Penn State Main, the middle 50% of GPA’s are between 3.52 on the lower end to 3.97 on the higher end, on a 4.0 scale. Also, after you get your decision, call the admissions office and ask to be evaluated for the summer session, because you could have a chance of getting in then.

@ronedd96, when did your status change to “coming days”?

No change here for my D either. Status changed Friday night and still waiting!

@asr60396 - it’s 4.0 u/w and 4.7 weighted, with mostly honors and several dual enrollment. The only thing I can think is that my SAT was a bit on the low side and that might be the problem. I’m just confused because I believe I read that 2/3 of the decision is GPA. But several other posts on here contradict that and say they give more weight to SATs. The funny thing is that my pic changed back and forth to UP and then alternate, but now it’s been alternate for 2 days, so I’m pretty sure that’s where I’ve been accepted.

I still have We are reviewing your credentials. A decision will be available here as soon as one is made.

Applied 9/1. What the heck?

No word for my D yet either whose status changed on Friday.
Note: The Admissions website has a page for Common questions and they do state GPA is 2/3 and test scores are 1/3.
I saw a girl on Twitter who status changed Thursday and she received her decision Friday. Same college (DUS) as my D, and she had stated her SAT score was 1430 AND she was accepted for FALL! Someone had mentioned on this board that there may be a calculation applied to each transcript to take in to consideration the high school to determine a weighting system, as in if you have a 1430 from a low performance high school it may be of more value than someone with a 1900 from a high performing school. May be some accuracy to that statement.

Can’t take the wait. I suppose worse case scenario is the Friday statuses will find out NLT than end of day Wednesday. Much more do-able than no status change at all - I suppose. Argh…

@David0321 - It could be due to the lower SAT but your GPA should make up for that. If you get your decision and it really does put you in an alternate campus, I would call the admissions office and request to be reevaluated for summer session at UP.

@David0321 are you an out of state student? That may be why

I think it depends on your admissions concelor. There are poeple here with 3.3 GPA that get in for summer. I think if you live near Brandywine campus then your concelor is J. Branch. I think he is the only concelor that hasn’t sent out his fair share of waves.

@Dave did you apply before Nov 30 and where are you from if in state?

@ psu20548-My son is in the same boat. His was complete September 15 and they are “still reviewing his credentials” and he applied directly for summer admission.

I don’t think there is any rhyme or reason to who gets accepted where. My son has a 3.82 unweighted GPA and scored an 1810 on his SATs. He will graduate high school with 25 college credits. His status has changed to the coming days and his pictured changed to a branch campus. I have seen people posting with lower scores getting accepted to UP.

I called admissions earlier this morning to see if they could tell me around when I would get my decision. They said anytime this week. I am going to call back around 1:00 to talk to an admissions counselor. My status changed Friday and I still have not yet found out anything except that my picture is University Park and I applied directly to summer. This wait is awful and hopefully when I talk to the admissions counselor they will be more specific about timing and maybe they can even tell me what the decision is?

@eaglesfan116 Please let us know what they say.
