I would say major definitely has a lot to do with where you are accepted. for example engineering is HUGE at penn state and majors like Business where you have to apply to more difficult colleges, like Smeal, have higher standards then less popular majors. People can be well above the standards for the college as a whole and still get sent to branch just because of the competitiveness of the major. I applied for Criminology with a 3.4 (14 Honors/AP/CHS classes) 1870 SAT and my status was changed Friday to coming days with UP picture so I’m staying hopeful

My son applied DUS in Sept, status changed Thursday, got rejected on Friday night. Picture never changed from UP until he got his decision and there was a picture of the lion. Only applied for fall. Stats:3.6 GPA and scored 2070 on SAT. All honors and AP classes. Tons of EC’s and community service. Completely confused and devastated. Calling admissions today for clarification. He doesn’t want to go to summer at this time. Not sure if that is even an option for him. Applied to 6 other schools, but thought PSU was definitely within reach, I guess we were wrong.

@Collegemom96 Are you in state?

Did you apply by November 30?

@vibsOveebs - I’m in state, applied either 1 or 2 days before Nov. 30 deadline (can’t remember which day exactly). From Potter County, PA

@Collegemom96 Let us know if admissions will consider a summer review/acceptance to UP after being rejected.

@collegemom96- so sorry! It is hard! Let us know if things work out for you and your son.

@David That explains it, you submited the application let’s say 27th it would take a few days for your transcript and ACT/SAT to reach admissions. If it goes over Nov 30th it’s harder to get in. Like much harder.

Your application is not complete untill they recieve everything.

I’ve seen replies from over 20 universities (multiple kids) over the years and every single one just posted accepted or rejected……except PSU. No wondering about which campus, picture change, or getting a message that you now have to wait an unspecified (they say 1 to 3 days….but could be more) amount of time and worry even more. Some schools took a while (though none as long as PSU), but it was straightforward. Its almost like admissions at PSU sat down and thought about how they could make the process the most stressful and painful as possible. Just my two cents, but whoever designed this system is not the most considerate, thoughtful person in the world. KISS. :)

@collegemom96- so sorry! This is such a stressful time! With his stats, I don’t know why they didn’t even recommend a branch campus? Good luck!

@vibsO I submitted my application Nov 22 but my sat and transcripts didn’t get sent out until like 3 days later. I called penn state fearing that I won’t be considered for priority but they told me they use the date that it was post marked. Meaning the day it’s stamped on the mail it was sent out and same for SAT as well

I will update everyone on what my son finds out from admissions. Hopefully, he will be able to get through to an admissions counselor this afternoon - not taking calls until after 1PM. To clarify, he only applied to UP for fall. Did not check off summer or alternate campus on his original app. Maybe his 3.6 GPA was just too low for his major - Mathematics.

@Ryan @Dave and all others in the same boat let’s just hope we all get accepted someway or another.

Well it could be a good sign that some decisions will be out today since they are taking phone calls (I believe) and are open today. Usually it says “phone calls cant be taken at this time”, but it didn’t do that for me.

While the online status is just computer automated, we could possibly hear back tonight at 7pm EST (for students whose apps updated Fri)

Good luck to everyone!

They say the portal only updates once per day and there’s no need to keep checking it. I wish they told you what time it updates.

I think it updates more frequently than that. I know frequent checkers whose status updated at midnight and later in the afternoon.

I just talked to an admissions counselor and they said after you get the " coming days" it usually takes 3-4 business days. He also said that there is no specific time when it updates and to just keep checking. I told him my status changed to " coming days" on Friday and he said before the end of the week I should hear back . When he asked me for my name, DOB, city, state, he said that a decision would be on its way so Im not really sure what he meant by that. I also asked why they give a notice status and he replied " to avoid phone calls asking about status application." There seems to be different answers about the amount of days it takes from when the status changes to when a decision is made.

Can people who applied for DUS for fall but got accepted to UP for DUS summer please post their stats?

I think they update in batches thoughout the day. We found out before 7pm…at least 2 hours before.

can people who applied to DUS post their stats? Especially if they applied for fall but got accepted for summer. Id really appreciate it

Does everyone think that everyone’s whose status updated Friday will find out at the same time?
