@hopmayer, i am reading this and wondering what your stats were. sounds like you were pretty well qualified.

@ronboy72 3.4 GPA (went from freshman year 2.6 to jr year 2.8), 31 ACT, tons and tons of ECs within my community and the field of broadcast journalism

@hopmayer
Your gpa hurt you. Also don’t say how it bugs you that lower scores got in. They worked equally as hard as you. Not trying to be rude but it comes off as jealous. Perhaps god has other things in plan for you. Ok. Most of the people did not start off with a 2 gpa like you did. They look at your entire freshman year and sophomore and junior. If your transcript shows failing or c’s no high test score can really make up for that. Most people with low test scores have good 3.4-4.0 gpa lots of AP/Honors classes, amazing essay and extracurriculars. So don’t say how low testers got in, you don’t know what else they had that made them get accepted. Penn sate doesn’t accept anyone, you have to show how you care about grades and your future from freshman year. I don’t know the whole story but I can concur that your freshman year, you might have slacked off. I don’t want any qualms, I am just stating that better things will come to you. Not many people can get a full ride be proud of that. If penn sate says no well that’s their loss, another great university will stop you and welcome you in.

How is your GPA 3.4, if you GPA by Jr year was only 2.8? I am really confused?

@hopmayer, if your GPA was a 2.8 your junior year, thats the gpa that psu receives. And that would be why you didn’t get in

Yeah, a 2.8 GPA is rather low for a school like psu. But it’s great that you got a full ride to a different college!

what are the advantages of accepting your offer early?
can I wait till march-end?

JUST NOTICED MY GPA HAD AN ERROR ON MY POST ok everyone can relaxxxxx my junior year gpa was a 3.8 not a 2.8 sorry for the outbreak it caused…

freshman year it was made clear to PSU that i was experiencing a dangerous home situation and that’s accounted for my grades, especially since i’ve been taking APs since sophomore year and honors my entire high school career. my essay made it very clear that i am the leader within my household, with my father travelling 90% of the time because my mother is unsafe for my sister and i. my essay detailed how i’ve grown up a leader and had to bring others up with me, and run a household by the age of 13.

i’m certainly not underestimating ANYBODY else’s efforts in this. never said that. i, of all people, know that everybody has a story that isn’t shown. sorry for the misconceptions. and you know what? i don’t think “jealous” should even be a bad term here. i understand you weren’t trying to be rude, but yeah, i’ll admit, i envy everybody who got in! is that really abnormal? i’m not saying they don’t deserve it. i understand decisions were made. all i’m saying is that i envy those who earned a coveted position i wish i had earned in their eyes, too. plain and simple.

at this point, i’m no longer upset about my admissions decision. i understand that spots fill up, whatever happens happens, and that’s what you get with state schools. just the end of a prospective journey!

@hopmeyer…your story add an enriched layer to your application. I am even more dumbfounded than before.

@hopmeyer For them to be upright countinuously rejecting you, then there’s something missing here. Is 3.4 your weighted GPA if so, that’s 100% why. Maybe at your school getting an A is super easy (i.e. grading scale of 80-100 is an A…). At my school, an A is a 94-100.

Just throwing around ideas, because psu is non holistic and for you to get shut down with those sats doesn’t make sense. If you look at the bubble chart, you’re not even borderline for acceptance. Also, is your 31 a superscore? Psu doesn’t superscore.

@papertowns57 at my school, and A is a 95-100 as well. we’re one of the top 5 public schools in MA, with the highest math and reading scores on MA standardized tests for years now.

it was my ACT that’s a 31. one sitting. i did one sitting of SAT, which was 1900, but i didn’t send that because the ACT of a 31 is much better. yeah not superscored, one sitting.

this has all left me very, very confused, but i can’t do anything about it. i asked for the reconsideration, and gave them lengthy reasons about how happy i was to be given the chance to be reconsidered, how in love i am with their broadcast facilities, etc. lots of stuff. i hate to say “whatever” but i can’t really formulate another response anymore

@twinmom2014 it’s a weird outcome

@hopmayer you’re not answering the most important question: is your gpa weighted? If so, you’re in the yellow on the bubble chart and then your rejection wouldn’t be surprising.

Also, OOS vs IS is a biggie for psu.

You have all of us stumped on here too buddy!!

If that’s the case I take back what I said your gpa plus test scores can get you into the coveted California’s schools you really should have gotten a letter of acceptance. Now I feel bad my scores were low gpa not so good you have better scores and gpa really sorry @hopmayer

Accepted. YAY!
Major: engineering(undecided)

I wanted to ask if all the people who applied for engineering got undecided engineering major or is it just me.

I got undecided engineering major.
I think we can only specialize into a particular field after soph year…I might be wrong though…

I’m curious, did anyone calculate approximately how much college credits they will be starting off with when they go to Penn state? I used their course credit transfer resource and AP credit page. I don’t know if I will get exactly how much they say they will give me, but apparently I’m going to start with 34 credits. 40 if I pass two AP’s in May. It would be awesome if I actually started with 40 credits, I find it so unrealistic though, I just know I will start with so much less.

priority decision date has passed but I have not received a decision. Does it mean I am deferred?

As luvthej said at one point, there are reasons admissions seems to take longer this year: a 14% increase in applications from last year’s record-breaking number! As shirts in town now say, “Educate. Dominate. Graduate. Penn State”

<a href=“Penn State applications exceed previous record”>Penn State applications exceed previous record;

Regarding starting with freshman year with college credits. Be careful, it may end up costing you $$. PSU charges tuition on a siding scale based on how many credits you’ve completed. Starting with more may bump you into the higher rate earlier.
