@sworrell11 Yay!! congrats! so changing to DUS worked for you too. and it was only a week ago that you changed. same thing happened to me!
@hhptod - My D also applied to Communications. I would also like to know if she should switch to DUS?? Her guidance counselor said it doesn’t matter a couple months ago-- but now I’m not so sure! If anyone has any insight about this, I would love to hear.
@juliacollege worked like a charm so much stress relieved, even though i may have gotten into smeal DUS was definatley the way to go
Accepted to Eberly with a 102.06 W GPA and a 2080 SAT
Hi! If you change to DUS now after the Nov 30th deadline you will be put back into the second round in which you might not hear until the end of Feb. Not sure if this is true for all or at all, but that is what I have been reading on here in past years.
My d also applied to communiations starting in summer and has not heard and a little higher stats- I was going to switch but it is too late at this point we just have to wait
Thanks - yeah I was seeing that in other comments - that switching to DUS after 11/30 is not a good idea. Sounds like we should have done it earlier. So hard to know what to do!
Are people who have already been accepted been seeing the “coming days” notification this year?
@nerual19 my daughter did not have the coming days status like my older children did so maybe they aren’t doing that anymore
It doesn’t seem like they are doing the “coming days” status OR the picture change this year. In a way, that’s probably better as it made everyone a little crazy trying to decipher everything.
As others have said, if you change your application now, you will be put back in “line” with the after priority applicants. If you get denied and want to switch to DUS for re-evaluation, you can do that, but you will also be put back in line to be notified after the priority applicants. But still, as PSU determines if their yield is up or down as deposits start rolling in, there may be more ‘spots’ available. Although last year, they told us that they don’t have specific spots and that is why admissions were up last year. Who knows. I relate and can empathize with those of you waiting. The 5 month wait for my D last year was a killer.
Good luck everyone!
@nerual19 no coming days status or picture change. I checked in the afternoon one day and it still said under review and picture was still UP then checked the next morning and it said accepted, picture never changed
@nerual19, my daughter did not have a coming days status either.
Is it a bad idea to switch to DUS now after the 11/30 deadline? I applied in early September and just want to hear back already. I applied to the College of Engineering with an UW GPA of 4.0, SAT 1760 (680 math/500 CR/580 writing). I also applied for the fall term but did select the summer option. Should I switch to DUS?
@laneysagan yes it’s a bad idea. Don’t do it.
@laneysagan If you change now, you will actually hear back later than if you just wait it out because you are after the priority deadline. Changing to DUS does absolutely nothing to your wait time (regardless of if you changed prior to 11/30) vs other majors as PSU determines applications in random order. My Daughter was DUS and it still took 5 months to hear last year.
I also think you should not change now. If you are accepted it’s easy to change majors when at the college. The biggest hurdle is getting in. Most colleges will allow a student to change majors up until the end of their sophomore year.
We wanted to switch to DUS because a lot of folks are saying it is easier to get accepted if your stats are on the border line. So that was the reason for the switch not really because we hoped to hear sooner. I am still trying to understand why making the switch on a previously submitted application after Nov 30 puts you back in line…
@mmsharp Because any changes to the application mean that the “completion” date has changed. Any application complete after November 30 is not priority any longer. It’s the same as if you take your SAT’s in December and then want to change your SAT submission. Can’t do that without pulling your application out of priority. Different majors have different entry requirements so changing the major means moving into a different category for consideration.
This is what we were told last year when we were concerned that people who were denied by their original major choice andd were re-submitting for DUS, would be considered prior to the priority deadline people still waiting. We were told that any changes to the application after November 30 meant that they would be taken out of priority and anyone still in priority that didn’t have a decision would get one before changed applications. This was last year - It wouldn’t hurt to see if any procedures have changed for this year. One call to admissions and you could probably find out.
Personally, I can see why they do it this way. They have to have a deadline at some point where no more changes can be made so that decisions can be made.
