PSU Class of 2022 Decision Thread

It means they want you to call and either you can have that major at a branch campus or you can switch that major When/if you call have a replacement possibility ready to offer (CHHD undecided??)

@20182022 @simple0920 my sister got one from this. Scholarships are awarded at the breakfast. Really an awesome time. Everybody who attended got a scholarship.

@Cookies510 UD does give OOS aid, my daughter got a merit scholarship

When do they send The For The Glory notification, does it take some time after you receive your decision to be notified about this? I got into Smeal on 12/18.

@twigmaster99 wow! The invite seemed so generic. Don’t want to super nosy, but do you know the range of the scholarships they gave at the breakfast? If they give them to everyone, I would imagine they aren’t large scholarships, but really just trying to weigh the options of flying in for this. thanks!!

@simple0920 You should at least go, enjoy the Penn State hospitality and then decide if the scholarship is worth it. I don’t know the amounts.

@lebronjames I don’t know when they get mailed but it is for top top students who may otherwise be swayed to go to an ivy. Very prestigious to get an invite

@simple0929. I am going to the For the Glory. Agree it was somewhat of a generic invite. I had no idea there were scholarships involved - hope that is still the case. I just found this post from last year, but it still isn’t clear how much because $16,000 over four years is not $2,000 per year:

We’re out of state and attended a very nice “for the glory” overnight program. Private meet and greets with professors in the major, tour of the campus, cocktail reception at Beaver Stadium. Very impressive. But, for all of this the Provost Scholarship was awarded. $16,000 OVER 4 YEARS. $2,000 a year. Just too expensive. Will attend Rutgers. An excellent in-state school for his major.

Any acceptances after the holidays.?

Applied 10/30 still no decision… applied as a premed major.

I have a 3.9 unweighted GPA with 12 total AP classes and the rest as honors and a 1400 SAT.
2 leadership positions and a variety of clubs with 200+ community service hours.
Is the premed major a hard major to get accepted into at University Park? What are my chances? I also put down the summer session at UP for my second choice.

My son’s application has been under review for almost 3 weeks and he applied in September

Has anybody heard from SMEAL? Stats?

@momofboys2 my son has been in the same state and he applied 9/27.

Applied Smeal on 9/17 and no update of any sort.

As a side remark: the “premed major” is not seen as a good major although it’s popular for clueless high school students. Med schools don’t like “premed majors”. They want students who can handle the rigors of a full major AND the premed pre-reqs. “premed majors” actually have the lowest acceptance rate among all possible majors. (Highest acceptance rates include majors in Math, Philosophy, English, Music, Engineering, CS, Foreign Languages&Cultures…) Avoid biology (lowest ROI of all possible majors) - although can be useful if paired with psychology or neuroscience or data science in IST or bioinformatics or biostatistics.
Also, I hope you applied to Schreyer.

Applied Smeal in October and accepted in late November.
ACT: 29
GPA: 4.09
Class Rank: Top 5%
Out of State: Texas
4 Year ROTC Scholarship

Accepted! 32 ACT, 3.73 GPA!!!

Congrats. What were her stats? Does the For the Glory invite come with the acceptance or at a later date? I was accepted today with a 32 ACT and 3.73 GPA

I would guess that most for the glory invites have already been sent. I got mine about three weeks ago and registered a couple days later - even then, some of the schools were already filled. I’m sure there aren’t any spots left at this point.

Applied 12/5
No update. I guess I have to wait till Feb end now
