@H0llyw00d check out this thread here: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/penn-state-university-park/2046332-financial-aid-fafsa-discussion-p1.html?new=1
son applied Smeal Business 9/17 and status just changed overnight to “Your application has been updated. Please check back soon for a status update.”
OOS
W GPA - 4.37, SAT-1330, ACT-31
@collegedad33, @FanOfFootball My kid loves the idea of Hershey. The nursing group is very close knit. They live together at Hershey in apartments right next to hospital along with the medical school students. That being said, your daughter may have some marginally better clinical experiences with PITT given its location…compared to those who are doing clinicals at the rural medical center in State College. Your daughter does have an option to spend both years at Hershey, if that is her concern. Both programs are highly regarded. Can’t go wrong either way. Can’t speak about Ohio State. Against my religion. Haha. :). Also, if your kid got into Pitt, s/he should get into Penn State UP.
Just out of curiosity, does anybody else have the “Please check your MyPennState profile regularly for updates to your checklist items. Once your checklist items are complete we will begin a review of your application.” Message? My checklist has been completed a long time ago but the message hasn’t changed. Should I be worried?
Both of my twins also received the same message overnight. Hoping for a decision by tonight
@ashen1203 My son applied 9/16 and his status only changed 3 weeks ago to “your application is under review” It’s random and you should not be worried.
If I recall, we should start to see huge batches of acceptances about now. Such an exciting time!
@Sophley Any idea what time they came around this time last year?
@ashen1203 Mine said this for a while, from end of September when I applied until early December. Your checklist will show as completed but your SRAR should say received. This means they received it but have not compared it to your transcript/reviewed it.Once this changes from received to completed like the rest of the items on your checklist, you will then see a change in message that says “Your application is currently under review. We have received everything required to complete your application. Once a decision is made, it will be posted here.” Unfortunately it can stay like that anytime from now until January 31st because it’s random! so we’re all stuck waiting in anticipation lol. Best of luck and hope for that change soon!
@nikolateslaxi , everyone who applied by 11/30 will hear back in the next 3 weeks…assuming they haven’t heard already. If you haven’t heard back by now, please please don’t assume that’s a rejection. A wealth of acceptances will be coming out soon. The volume of notifications, at least to me, seemed to pick up speed.
Got accepted today into Eberly College of Science majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology! 28 on ACT and 3.9 GPA. Residence: New Jersey. Extracurriculars: Volleyball, chorus, volunteer, etc. I applied on October 20th, 2017.
Doesn’t seem like many decisions have been made since they came back from break. Hopefully next week we will finally see some decisions coming.
“We are pleased that you are interested in admission to Penn State. We carefully evaluated your application for admission and regret that we are unable to offer you admission because you lack the appropriate high school/secondary school course requirements for the program you selected and appear not to have taken equivalent college courses. A list of secondary school course requirements for admission to the various colleges of Penn State can be found at admissions.psu.edu/apply/requirements. Please verify that the self-reported high school course information on your application corresponds with your official high school transcript and current schedule. Should you find an additional course that possibly fulfills the Penn State course requirement, please email the course information to admissions@psu.edu. If you schedule the appropriate high school course(s) for the upcoming term, including summer school, at your high school, please submit your updated high school schedule to the Undergraduate Admissions Office.College course work can substitute for high school units. If you schedule the appropriate substitute course(s) at a local college or university, please email admissions@psu.edu as soon as possible and provide the name of the institution where you plan to take the course(s), a course description, and the number of credits. We will require an official transcript showing that the course is successfully completed prior to enrollment at Penn State. Please contact a Penn State admissions counselor at any campus to further discuss your options for satisfying the program requirements. We wish you all the best as you pursue your educational goals.”
Could anyone help interpret this please.
It means they don’t think you have enough preparation for whatever program you chose. (For example: a student has barely taken any math classes and wants to major in engineering.)
What did you apply for? Look at the website link they gave and see what the requirements are.
my major was finance but i have taken all the required math courses including Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre Calc, Statistics, and two computer science courses
Here were my stats
Sat; 1330
GPA: 3.7
4 ap courses
around to 50% of class
out of state
Alumni- brother who attended
So you have taken all of the following:
“Math Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry plus one-half unit of Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, or Calculus
English 4 units, including 1 unit each in composition and literature
Social Studies/Art/Humanities 3 units in any combination of social studies, arts, or humanities
Science 3 units
World Language 2 units*”
?
If so, then check that you reported your classes correctly on the app. Is there a class you’re taking that they weren’t told about?
DD’s SRAR checklist status changed to completed overnight, and an additional requirement was added to her checklist: a copy of the transcript from the college for two dual enrollment courses. We will contact admissions on Monday, since the classes will not be completed (and a transcript will not be available) until the beginning of February. Does anyone else have this or a similar situation? Does this seem odd that a request for additional information is coming so late? She applied in early October (OOS). Status has changed to "Penn state is currently receiving a high volume of supporting application materials…
Has anyone heard of a decision posting on a Saturday?
We finally are under review! Anyone know how long it usually is from under review to decision?!?
