@Sophley, Yeah we are out of state so I told her no for summer. I currently have one at OSU and 2 in college not paying for a summer semester as well. Really hoping she does not have to wait till 2/1 to hear. Several of her friends have heard already but none of them applied to Nursing. Can you explain to me the Hershey deal for Nursing and what year they go there? She wanted to apply here so bad that I should have done some research first.
@ibterp91 - I completely agree that PSU should not call their process “rolling admissions.” It looks like they don’t make any decisions at all until November, and then they don’t follow any logical order. I also cannot understand why they don’t send emails when your status changes. Instead, people (like me!) drive themselves crazy with obsessively checking their portal. I can see why your child is not feeling the love, but she shouldn’t take it personally. It isn’t that she fell through the cracks, it is just how their (stupid) system works. It felt like foooooooooorever until I got my acceptance, and I’m one of the lucky ones who did hear before the holidays.
@ITBTERP91 I feel your pain. I think what makes it so sad is seeing people who applied two months later than you get their acceptances before you. Unfortunately, there is no rhyme or reason to the way PSU tackles their applications, and as a result, they may lose some great students as a result. Wishing your daughter the best of luck!
Son accepted to University park for comp sci. Submitted app 1st week of November…changed to under review a couple of days back and finally got the decision.
If S applied to the medical program at Penn State will the notification for that appear with the admissions decision? Has anyone else gotten any news on medical program?
@priya2015, Congrats on your sons acceptance. So frustrating my D applied Oct. 1 and changed to under review Nov. 1st and still nothing. PSU process is definitely a hard one to try and understand.
@ccs0623 Similar here. Under Review on Nov 16th. High stats and GPA, but nothing since. Others with lower stats long since accepted.
I know this is asked every day, but has anyone had a status change mid day?
Some have, check BSMD thread! The interview date is 2/14. If notified by January end, it doesn’t leave a lot of time for planning. @TGBuckeye
@priya, congratulations, my son heard today also University Park for Computer Science, now we have to wait for financial aid information…we are OFS.
@MomNama …congrats to your son!
This was my internal dialogue last year when my kid applied.
On 1/30/17: Can’t stand Penn State. Can’t believe my poor kid applied 9/1 and still hasn’t heard. She’s in tears, depressed,…hate them…not giving them a dime. How rude…
On 2/1/17: OMG…Accepted. Yes, yes, dream come true. Penn State is the best ever!!! Love this school.
Maybe that’s why I’m checking this site a year later. To all of you survivors who made it this far, the wait is almost over. It’s a ridiculous process, but it’s their process (a.k.a. “MODIFIED rolling admissions”)
does anyone think Legacy helps at all? Or would be a reason that some students are still “under review”?
@ccs0623, in previous years, students were told at the beginning of their sophomore year whether they’d go to Hershey junior or senior year. It was rather random lottery-type thing. Supposedly students can now indicate a preference. Peds is taught junior year, so if your daughter wants to specialize in peds, she may want to request junior year in Hershey to gain experience on the Children’s Hospital. I think more critical care/ICU is done senior year. All hearsay…came from my daughter’s mouth so it may not be wholly accurate. Students love going to Hershey!!!
@psu94 no idea. 13 close relatives for my daughter. Double Parent and double Grandparent plus aunts, uncle, cousins… Maybe they know we’ll accept? Lol
I do not see any acceptances to Business College…anyone heard yet?
my application status is still: “Penn State is currently receiving a high volume of supporting application materials. Supporting application materials are being processed and recorded on the date received. Please check your MyPennState profile regularly for updates to your checklist items. Once your checklist items are complete we will begin a review of your application”
I applied before the nov 30 deadline but only submit my SAT score a week ago
when do you think i’ll be hearing back?
@Sophley, Thanks so much for the info. I new how hard it was for me in nursing school and I could not imagine having to leave my friends for a whole year. She really wants PSU so I am guessing she will do whatever it takes. One more question do you know how many nursing students UP accepts?
@aabsku, keeping checking it ours changed in two days, good luck!
@mags425 I am in the same boat. haven’t heard anything from Smeal. Getting concerned haha…
