PSU Class of 2022 Decision Thread

Do you have any idea what the FTG scholarship offer is? My son is just anxious to decide, and the amount matters.

haven’t heard from Smeal either @NE_Pats12

I got accepted but on the condition that I do 2 years on a satellite campus and 2 years on main. I chose to major in business, did I get accepted into the business program or am I going to be only studying business depending on my grades once I am there?

@jlhpsu could you go more in depth of the quality of the ROTC program at Altoona. How does it differ from other campuses? Thanks for your input

I am OOS. I would say at least 15 kids from my class also applied business and heard nothing. The only kids who heard so far did not apply business. If I do not get business and university park - not going to consider.

Hopefulcadet: my understanding is that even if you started as a freshman at UP after being admitted to the business school, they wouldn’t let you declare a business major until after your 3rd semester and that would be dependent on achieving a 3.2 or 3.5 gpa depending on which specific major. So starting at a satellite presumably would not change that reality. I realize this gpa requirement isn’t unique to psu, but it seems unreasonable to invest 3 semesters towards a degree and have to change your degree (and lengthen the time to get a degree) because you might only have a 3.1 gpa (not a bad gpa in my view).

@hopefulcadet333 The overwhelming majority of incoming freshmen are not officially in their major. Exceptions being some special programs that admit freshmen specifically. This page has info about the Entrance to Major process for Smeal: https://ugstudents.smeal.psu.edu/academics-advising/get-into-a-smeal-major/entrance-to-major-requirments

Has anyone seen/heard of a student being accepted to Univ Park who applied “Undecided” ? Have seen many other students with specific majors be accepted/rejected but can’t recall if I’ve seen any of the “Undecided” / “Summer Program” students post. Anyone in that same situation?

@ccs0623 , at accepted students day last year, we were told they received 1800 applications for either 150 or 160 spots. The exact number of spots fluctuates, depending on who you talk to. But I think they take about 180 knowing not everyone will 1) accept offer and 2) get beyond the weed out classes.

Have not seen any summer acceptances yet. Most likely the last batch to come out.

I applied at Nov.30, but my Sat scores were sent there a week later. I also applied to Smeal, but didn’t get a decision yet.
SAT : 1380
GPA: 3.65

Just got accepted today after two days of being under review
-3.75 GPA
-31 ACT
-lots of extracurricular
-OOS

@ashen1203 Is this your first time logging on the portal today? Wondering if they are posting more than just once overnight. Congratulations!!!

@ITBTERP91 That’s really a shame that your daughter would discount Penn State now when they are doing exactly what they said they would do. You were never told you’d know by the holidays. In fact, MOST kids don’t hear until January. The ONLY thing they tell you is that if you apply by November 30, you hear by January 31st. That’s it. It’s a modified rolling admission and they tell you that directly on the website. I know you are frustrated that your daughter hasn’t heard yet…but it’s not Penn State’s fault that you incorrectly set your expectations. She hasn’t ‘fallen through the cracks’…she’s just with the majority of other kids that find out in January. It does a kid no favors when they think that the rules and expectations apply to others but not them. In that case, it is likely better that she doesn’t go to Penn State because they are not a “hand holding” type of institution. Everyone is treated the same.

@hopefulcadet333 I don’t really know anything at all about the ROTC at other campuses. But I do know that the ROTC on Altoona’s campus is part of the UP campus ROTC, which is in the top 5% of all ROTC’s in the country. PSU Hazelton, Altoona and UP are all one ROTC. So if you go to UP, you transition seamlessly from Altoona. You can also complete it at Altoona if you stay there for your degree. You can read more here: http://altoona.psu.edu/academics/army-rotc

@ITBTERP91 Yes, extremely frustrating…especially when you see others getting in after waiting less time. Three years ago, my daughter applied well before 11/30 and got her decision on 1/31 and now my son’s status changed before Christmas and still we wait. Penn State has a “strange” interpretation of rolling admissions, but it’s just what they do. Hold on a little longer!!!

Just wait until the students are applying for jobs/internships…I got a few rejection emails in June and July, after months and months of silence from those companies.

Is there a typical day for admissions decisions to be released or are they simply random? I know Ohio State does it in batches every month on a Friday

random @TGBuckeye

Has anybody with summer option been admitted?
