If it’s a state school that isn’t in your state, that’s the way things go.
@zorf2 More like $53k and PSU is not a state school. Summer is a great experience.
Is there a Facebook page for accepted students?
still under review going into another weekend. at least next week is the last of the torture.
Is it my major? Psychology BS? Do they tend to not accept freshman at UP for this major? Penn State is my #1 choice, already accepted at Temple but really want to go to UP. I did opt for summer if I can get it. Any other Liberal Arts Psych applicants accepted? Stats?
@zorf2 , Yes it is expensive and all applicants should review these costs with their parents before checking off that box. Summer is the best option for students whose stats are on the bubble for UP, the college they applied for, or a particularly competitive major. Many 4.0 GPA kids come to UP and can’t handle the workload, distractions, and/or weed out classes. So kids closer to that 3.55 GPA need summer as it can reduce their first year course load. It sets them up for success. Otherwise, they run the risk of getting crushed, losing the GPA they need to enter their major, anxiety/depression, and more. My kid needed summer.
@bluehug222 i was recently accepted for the fall term at UP for Psychology. I will not lie, I was very surprised that I got in, especially for the fall term because my stats aren’t as impressive as others. 3.5 W, 26 ACT, Varsity athlete for 4 years (captain position), student council treasurer, student leadership, spanish honors society, fashion club. have a part time job. my essay was pretty good. i hope this helped you in some way!
@Bluehug222 same for my son. Still under review for Athletic Training at the College of Health and Human Development. I was really hoping today was the day. Oh, well.
Anyone know if there is an instagram or Groupme group for accepted students, and if so what is it. Thanks
@ascholar13 Thank you so much for posting your information. Congratulations on your acceptance!! I think your stats are great. Takes a lot of hard work it takes to balance athletics, academics and life while maintaining a 3.5gpa or better! My sat is my weakness at a 1290, wgpa 3.87 with 4yr varsity sports as well, NHS and service work. I hope to update this with an acceptance next week and see you in class in the fall!
@ronboy72 There is an Instagram and a Facebook page, @psu2022 and the Facebook group is titled Accepted Students Penn State class of 2022 I think
So what do you think my chances of getting accepted are? SAT 1170, GPA unweighted 3.1 weighted 3.667. First time I applied was for Finance and got into Abington Smeal College of Business. I reapplied under undecided and marked summer as an option (marked summer the first time too).
@soccermom22 it’s so brutal. Best of luck to you guys next week!
@kme57310 Thanks
How hard is it to transfer as a junior from DUS to Smeal?
From everything I’ve read (and boots on the ground can chime in here) … it is virtually no different being in DUS and being in Smeal as a freshman and sophomore. The major advantage to being in Smeal as a freshman - and know that you are considered “pre major” - is that you get a business advisor. You also have the advantage of potentially being involved in the Sapphire Program.

The most important thing is to track the entrance to major requirements and to do well in those classes (3.2 all majors except finance is a 3.5).
@thebigD1001 obviously, I wish you the best of luck, but I think it is an uphill battle. From everything I’ve read and heard, the stats for DUS are not trending significantly below as Smeal. If you already checked summer and didn’t get that option, I’m not convinced just switching to DUS will help.
When I look at the middle 50% statistics for PSU-UP, gpa is 3.55-3.97 and SAT is 1230 - 1410. With your stats of 3.1 and 1170, you are in the bottom 25% of both. Unless you have a compelling case, it seems like UP is a stretch.
On the other hand, I will share that many freshman who start at UP get overwhelmed with the academic difficulty. (and they are coming in with stronger stats to start). Honestly, starting at a branch campus, where weed-out classes are smaller and assistance is more readily available, is probably the best thing for you. Remember, to be in Smeal, you need a gpa of 3.2 - and college is going to get harder than HS was. I would encourage you to take advantage of the branch campus opportunity and make yourself a strong student so that when you come to UP as a Jr., you are ready to be successful.
best wishes.
Accepted into Altoona denied from main campus. Gpa: 3.9 SAT:1370 Tons of activties and community service. Varsity Athlete.
I thought I was a shoe in for University Park. Am I crazy for thinking this? I guess Penn State has become very competitive.
For got to mention I applied to the school of business
Nobody is a shoo in for Smeal – it’s the most competitive college.
But what about my weighted GPA of 3.67? I was just curious cause a girl with an SAT of 1090 and ranked 70 in the grade got in to summer vs a kid ranked 35 and SAT of 1310 and did not get in.
