PSU Class of 2022 Decision Thread

@nutmeger12031999 I I am assuming you are responding to me even though you did not tag me. He was honest with us today he showed it to us “under review. “ But like I said the reason why he doesn’t care that much is because he realistically knows a smaller academic environment for him will be a more successful environment for him. He has already received admission letters from Goucher College which he is excited about because it is a very small university with only about 1500 students so the student /professor ratio is 10 to 1. And he also got into the University of New Hampshire. Still a smaller school but not as small as Goucher College. However he has not had a chance to see University of New Hampshire so he isn’t that excited about it. We will be having to take him to see it after April 15 when my husband is done with tax season.

@Andreq University of New Hampshire has a magnificent campus, gorgeous architecture, state of the art facilities, and even a highly-regarded campus dining program. I could not recommend UNH more on the list you mentioned.

To pass the time: parents or students who apply to PSU “regular” (not Schreyer*) why are you interested in Penn State? Why is it your #1?
Indeed, Millennials like cities so why PSU and not Temple or Pitt? (Mind you, I think the best time to live in a college town is as a college student, and the best time to live in a city is when you have money and are a family-free young professional… but Millennials typically want cities right out of HS!) If you want football, why not football universities that give out scholarships, like tOSU, MSU, or UAlabama? If you like the campus, why not UDel or UNH or UVermont?

(*Schreyer being one of the top Honors Colleges in the country, it makes total sense to choose it).

@MYOS1634 its cause PSU is arguably the top public state school in Pennsylvania and I am instate so it made sense to apply there. Also the campus and school pride was very impressive and blew temple and even Pitt out the water.

@aja1011 Thx. Same to your family!

@aja1011 Thx. Same to you!

@MYOS1634 I have no idea why my son applied to PSU. The first criteria he set when looking for colleges was big city. The second was a sports oriented school/campus-so PSU checks that box. We live in Philadelphia and he loves the city. I was surprised when he mentioned Penn State. I think so many of his friends applied there he figured ‘why not or let me see if I can can get in’. He applied to Temple and Pitt as well.

@MYOS1634 My son has had his heart set on Penn State for years. I’m an alum, so we go to a few football games a year and he’s gone to the ice hockey camp a few summers.

We also live in Center City Philadelphia and he’s been living the city life for 18 years. While he would love an urban campus there really aren’t any with the big time sports programs he wants. Unfortunately he was only accepted at Altoona and I’m not sure he’d be happy at a small school in a small town and it’s hard to justify paying $30K for a branch campus. He might as well go to community college for 2 years, save $50K and then transfer to PSU or somewhere else.

Still waiting here @aja1011

@PAHoosier
Thank you for your information. I wasn’t really happy about getting accepted into summer session…seems I am the one left out…since a lot of other kids with lower SAT scores and GPA got in with fall term, and my major isn’t even a popular one at Penn State…all in all, wired.

It’s not by major, it’s by the college your major is in. Engineering is very competitive.

Duplicate post

I’ve only seen one person on this thread who has gotten into the school of Information Sciences and Technology (IST). Anyone else get into that school at UP? I applied there on 11/27 and been under review since 1/8.

@ hockeymom0600 Congratulations!! My daughter too with very similar stats! Havent seen many nursing acceptances although I have to remember that it is such a small program compared to others - I think there will be about 180 students starting in fall. Going to accepted students day on 2/2. We have a lot to be proud of.
WE ARE PENN STATE!

@ fhockeymom0600 - post 1316 is for you (mistake on your user name :slight_smile:

My DS was accepted into UP as a math major for Fall yesterday. He applied in October, 3.65 unweighted gpa, SAT: 660 math 660 reading. A few AP classes, lots of honors. Top 25% of his class. Varsity wrestling and cross country. SPL for his Boy Scout troop, Boys State delegate, volunteering, etc. out of state. Hoping for NROTC.

Not sure I get the summer program and why this is even necessary for some. If they give you summer, that means that they have the space for you in the fall as all summer kids automatically move on to fall. So… is it just them trying to make a buck? The $9000 price OOS seems insane to take 2 classes. That means the first year of school would cost almost $60K for a state school. Am I missing something?
