PSU Class of 2022 Decision Thread

It is now January 31st and my application is still under review. I even emailed last week to make sure all of my materials were in by November 30th, and they confirmed that they were. Why do I not have a response?

My daughters portal changed to accepted status at 12:01 on 2/1 last year…one minute beyond 1/31. You should know something tonight. Of course decisions were only posted at midnight last year and it seems like a handful of motivations have come out midday this year after portal crashes.

D wait listed. Really surprised as she got in to PITT and Ohio State and has the grades. Never know what they are thinking in admissions. Will find out by May 1st. Not waiting with 2 incredible other options.
So bummed for her but that’s the process. Good luck to everyone still waiting especially those for the ultra competitive Nursing school. If it doesn’t go your way stay positive and patient. The right school is out there for you. Good luck everyone!

@collegedad33, just wow. Very surprised by the decision given your daughters stats. She deserves an awesome program for as hard as she’s worked. Hope she’s proud about the fact that she got into one of the best programs in country (Pitt).

@Collegedad33 So sorry to hear your daughter was wait listed. My son goes to OSU and loves it there. It is a great school and the medical center there is amazing. I wish your daughter the best of luck with her decision. I am frustrated because my daughter also applied to nursing and still has not heard a thing portal still says under review.

Her portal changed from 2/2 to under review again.

D was accepted yesterday afternoon to University Park DUS with the Summer Session admission. #1 choice but the Summer Session (and the accompanying six-week commitment) will be a tough call. I’ve heard that the Summer Session is a great “head-start” but if anyone has past experience with it recently, I’d love to hear. Thanks !

Stats:
SAT: 1200
GPA: (Un-Weighted) 3.7

Location/Person:
State or Country: OOS
School Type: Private
Ethnicity: white
Gender: female

Other Factors:
Extremely Strong Extracurriculars
Very competitive High School

Still under review… if I don’t find out midnight, I’ll call tomorrow
I suggest the same for everyone in the same boat…

@ctstudent2018 LEAP is great. Had one go through it and have have my second son going this summer. Two small, classes, hopefully two a’s to help the GPA, lots of great friends, lots of fun. Nothing but good things.

so this is strange. Daughter applied for UP Summer session, DUS. Her application is still under review, but her program of study has changed to reflect NO Summer session. Has anyone seen anything like this?

@Sophley Thanks for the encouragement. We know PITT is the way to go. We knew it going in regardless of PSU. Wife and I wanted PITT anyways but our D wanted more of the “campus feel” and alure of PSU. Still waiting on a couple of others. I know she’ll fall in love with the school. Program and setting is top notch for nursing.
@ccs0623 thanks. The Ohio State pre-nursing and then re-applying after 1st year is not ideal. Awesome school though! Hate to take that risk with PITT in play. Good luck to your D! I’m really hoping she gets in. Keep me posted.
@Sunny777 Congrats to your D on getting into the Nursing Program! My D is living proof it’s not easy. You must be so proud.
Good luck to all still waiting. There’s always tomorrow. Pay no attention to Jan 31st “notification deadline”

The PSU “rolling” admission process is really absurd. If truly “rolling”, they should admit / defer / reject based on when they receive the applications. For someone to send in their application 2 months later and get an immediate decision while another student got their application in day 1 and then has to wait 4-5 months makes little sense. The whole process is a total turnoff. PSU (as well as other schools who go by the “by x date”) should just pick a date to release everything in a EA process. And the fact that they didn’t release the rest today, also makes the “by January 31” inaccurate.

Still have not heard back yet. I called earlier this week to ensure that I turned my application in by the early action deadline (I did). My application has been “under review” for about a month now. Does the admissions office’s lack of responsiveness mean my chances are slim??

@Collegedad33 Not looking hopeful. I just called PSU to inquire about my D application and the admissions person said I see she applied in September was under review since early November but I am going to have to send information to counseling office. If your daughter does not hear by Monday give us a call back. She stated that this has been happening to a lot of applicants this year. As for OSU did not know you had to apply after first year. Pitt is a great school but I could not get my daughter to apply there she did not care for the city feel. Still waiting to hear from Xavier Nursing as well.

@A1A1A1 I agree that it is very frustrating - I’m sure you are anxious to hear. You are right, they really aren’t “rolling admissions” - they are more “modified rolling admissions”.

Penn State is a large school - with that come advantages (recruiting, sports, alumni, school spirit) and disadvantages (bureaucracy, sometimes hard to get classes, can be overwhelming). They receive about 70,000 applications to process. I’m sure admissions is working like crazy to get through them - and technically, they still have a few hours within the Jan. 31 deadline.

Be patient. Go find something else to do while waiting to distract you. Or if you are really frustrated, go ahead and call admissions to ensure they have everything they need and that you are in the queue to get a decision today.

good luck

@BCmaryland27 It may come down to if you applied for a more competitive major or a less competitive major or if you put down summer ? I think Bio can be competitive ?

Middle 50 are: ACT 27-31, so you are on the high end - which is good news. Bad news is that is only 1/3 of the decision. GPA middle 50 is 3.55-3.97 (unweighted) , so you are below that. And that is 2/3 of the decision. Obviously, your academic rigor is strong, so hopefully, when they do their internal weighting process (which no one really understands), it will work out in your favor.

hope things work out for you.

I applied for Premedicine on October 30th and been under review since January 6th. My GPA is 3.9 unweighted and a 1400 SAT. All of my classes are honors or AP and I thought I would have decision by now. Should I wait until tomorrow and then call admissions if I don’t have a decision by the end of today?

I received an acceptance on 1-17-18, and accepted my offer the next day, but still haven’t gotten my letter in the mail, should I be worried?

disappointed my S was admitted to Smeal 2+2. GPA 4.0 SAT 1310. It really looks like they are pushing qualified UP students to Branch campuses to fill them, while admitting OOS to UP with same or lower scores. My S doesnt want to attend college in an office buliding that has no college feel, plus they offer very little in business courses. he has been accepted to Pitt, temple, desales business schools already. Good luck to all.

@linalou mine says that too and I was so confused. Like is this a bad thing? Someone please let me know because I’m freaking out!
