Hi there. My daughter was accepted at UP, Eberly School for Forensic Science. She has always been at a homeschool tutoring center plus doing Community College this year, so her activities and honors are different than if she had been in typical school, but here are her stats:
In state
Homeschool/Dual enrollment
GPA 3.8 UW, 4.2 W (Her center didn’t offer AP)
ACT 32 (Pitt converted that score to a 1470 SAT)
Pittsburgh Project-help rebuild houses for people in need
YWAM-counselor for refugee children, summer program
Years of musical theater, flute.
Worked for a couple of years.
I had appealed my admission to altoona and my “mypennsate” account changed back to the university park logo from the altoona logo and is saying im under review again. Is this a good sign?
I applied for Architecture program 11/30, and it changed to under review around the beginning of January. I got denied for Architecture program which is my first choice major, but they offer me to Landscape Architecture and I am still very happy with that. I am not surprised that I couldn’t get into Architecture program because they only take 60 students and my GPA is really low.
Stats:
SAT: 1310 (650CR/W) (660M)
SAT IIs: -
GPA: 3.17 (Unweighted) my school doesn’t do weighted GPA
Rank: My school does not rank
Other stats: -
Harrisburg is a residential campus and while it’s farther away from State College, it’s closer to Philadelphia if you want to go on weekends. That being said, I would not come from OOS for that. Look at where else you’ve been admitted first.
Does anyone know if applications to specific departments within a college get reviewed by that department for a decision? For example, will an application that requests aerospace engineering get reviewed by the Aerospace Engineering department for a decision? Thanks.
@UPclass2022 How long did it take for them to review you appeal? How long after you switched from finance to DUS? I am in same boat, they said 2-3 weeks, and 3 weeks will be Tuesday.
@UPclass2022 - interesting because after applying 9/15 and finally hearing at back midnight on 1/31 my daughter called the next day and was told by an Admissions Counselor that she could not appeal her Smeal 2+2 Altoona offer and that she couldn’t change her major for reconsideration at UP.
It is really frustrating to hear about inconsistent standards. The rolling admissions process at PSU this year has been nothing short of a Debacle. They really need to take a hard look at their process and personnel…
My D is in a similar situation with similar Stats. and was told 2 to 3 weeks. 3 weeks will be Tuesday. She did not appeal the decision. She reapplied to another college within the university. I’m hopeful, but not optimistic.
@ITBTERP91 I wasn’t just changing my major, I was mainly filing for extenuating circumstances that I wasn’t able to but in my application because a lack of an additional information section
Extenuating circumstances, and misinformation original given to the applicant, would not consider much but a change in major to originally requested major. No reconsideration for UP though
@ITBTERP91 Not all applicants are the same. When the admissions office looked at @UPclass2022 application, they saw something that would allow for a reconsideration. Your daughter’s application did not. It may be the way her school weights classes or the classes she took - you probably won’t know unless you call and ask to speak directly to an admissions counselor (not the people who answer the phone at admissions). But generally, if they don’t offer you the opportunity to ask for reconsideration, there is a reason.
As far as Penn State admissions rolling admission being a ‘debacle’. It has not. Your daughter heard in the published time frame. She heard by the end of the day January 31st. They did have to extend the deadline for some applications but not many - those people have a legitimate gripe about the process. But you were told up front you’d hear by January 31 and you did. You just EXPECTED to hear earlier for some reason. Your daughter has great options ahead of her and she’s been accepted to some great schools. She is obviously smart and will do great wherever she ends up.
