Thanks man! Do you plan on going?

my d has 25 act witha 3.91 weighted spa? i checked off summer? chances?

Ok chances. It would help for the ACT to go up at least a point.

I actually thought about it, and I want to apply to Schreyer’s. Anyone with any info if it’s worth doing?

Bump anyone with thoughts?

Schreyer’s pros: graduating with honors, getting to take honors classes (they’re smaller, better faculty members…), living in honors dorms, scholarship (3500 a year), funding for study abroad etc, better opportunities for internships/research

Cons: taking honors classes (more work), must maintain GPA (I think it’s a 3.4?), certain majors may have other requirements, have to write an honors thesis

Yeah I want to do it, but it’s 3 essays for the application. I already have toms to do for other schools so that’s why I’m not sure if I should.

I don’t remember what the topics were, but I think they were pretty specific and not something that you could just adjust other essays to fit. So you would have to spend some actual time on them if you were to apply. So if you don’t think you’ll really end up going to PSU then don’t apply to the honors college. But if you will absolutely go if you get in, it might be worth it and maybe you should shorten your list of colleges if you have to much work for applications…

if the extra work for applications seems like a problem for you, think about all the extra work for honors classes at PSU! Consider whether this is a good fit for you.

I could definitely see myself going to PSU so I’ll probably do the SHC application.

@andy: the Yoda rule applies to Schreyer application: “Do, or do not…there is no try”(nor is there a “probably”) Schreyer requires you to take honors classes as approved by your advisor. It requires a maintained GPA, and a very involved, complicated, rigorous senior thesis. Think Ivy League reqs inside a PSU degree. Most importantly, Schreyer adcoms have a zen-like ability to sniff out wannabes and ambivalence. To me, you sound ambivalent!!

If that was motivation it worked! No if ands or buts I’m doing it. No not probably, I AM doing it.
