psu/jefferson

by the way, im glad it's your goal.
it was the only program i applied to.
i LOVE it here. and most everyone else that i know does too.

that's crazy man......i geeked out and applied to 17 progs........do they give preference to pa residents (haha any edge i can get i'll take)? i mean it is a state university.......lol...

geeked out.. lol
Alright.. I'll IM you. Thanks!

i think they do take more people from PA. More than half the kids in my year are from PA.

Do you have any New Yorkers?

yeah, one in the year above me is from queens, and one of my buddies in my year is from newburgh.

a lot of folks from new jersey. i'd say PA and NJ make up the majority.

also one from buffalo.

cool.. sounds good

25 seats total, right?

waternoodles......i still can't understand one thing: most of the ppl applying to progs are "good," u know? how can so many of them not get interviews? i guess wat i'm asking is how psu picks interview candidates from such a quality pool...?

Yeah.. and specifically what do you think "did it" for you?

waternoodles, you mentioned "international piano competitions...." i feel like that's what got you into the program more than the rock band (which is still really unique) and the book (which is still really unique lol). would you agree? i'm trying to weigh my own chances--i'm no musical genius/band member/author....lol, we'll see what happens i guess.

i heard they have some crazy mcat requirement, do u kno specifically what it is (i.e taking like the mcat sophomore year) i knew 2 sisters who got into it different years and i think they both got either 1560 or 1580ish

There's no one thing that gets you an interview. They are looking for people with good academic credentials, ambition, and passion and who know for sure they want to be doctors. The only people who can tell you for sure how they pick interview candidates is the admissions committee. PSU doesn't do the picking; Jefferson does.

For me, I think that I am very goal-oriented and I do things that I want to do. I have something to show for it all. By this, I mean, don't do things that you think the admissions people want to see. Do things that you actually want to do, because if you want to do them you will do them well. It definitely helps to have a passion for something and devote yourself to a cause or an idea or a hobby. Anything at all. I've already told someone here that I bet the admissions people get plenty of high school tennis teeam captains, All-State musicians, and valedictorians. That's not all that matters. If something is important to you, do something with it and that's your key to standing apart from the crowd.

You don't need to be an All-American athlete to show athleticism. You can coach a pee-wee team.
You don't need to cure cancer. Try doing a research internship somewhere.
You don't need to be a Grammy-winning musician. Jam with your friends. Play at coffee shops.

If you have something to show for your ambitions you will be fine.

As for the MCATs, you have to pass the MCAT before you go on to Jefferson. The advisor suggests taking the MCAT in the Spring of your 2nd year at PSU if you're on the 6-year track. That's fine if you know you can ace it. A lot of us take it in August, after the 2nd summer at PSU. That way, if you pass, we can opt to study abroad or leave during the 2nd spring semester. Or, if you don't pass, you have one more chance to take the MCAT that year.

Right now, you have to get 27 out of a possible score of 45 on the MCAT, with at least 9 in all 3 sections. However, there are rumors that this requirement is changing either this year or next, to become higher. All but 2 people passed in August, and most scored in the mid 30's. Two people scored exceptionally high.

Just got contacted for my interview: February 16. Anyone else? Also, what sort of questions do they usually ask?

i havent heard anything yet.

hey by what method did u get contacted by psu; if its email u think could post lil snippets of any information they gave about the program? thank you

RajPatel,
Can you put your stats?

I got an interview too (forgot I applied there lol)

streetlight i ssee you got accepted MIT EA, are you going to def go there? or first weigh options by going to PSU interview and such? if you decide not to do the interview cuz you know u wanna go to MIT, you'd make one person who was originally left out perhaps happy :) ... but I don't know if PSU does replace those who decline interviews, so who knows

I 'm just concerned because I haven't been contacted yet :(
