What is the chance of a spot opening in the class during the registration period?

I have a kind of unrelated question about Psych 11. An upperclassman on the Facebook group mentioned that now that Psych 11 is a required course for the Psych major, Psych 11 is going to turn into a very, very difficult weedout class. I know the professor (Whitfield I think?) had great reviews on ratemyprofessor and many students said it was an easy A. Any other upperclassmen have input on whether or not this class is going to be substantially more difficult now? I was taking it to balance out my weedout class (Econ 51), but if I have instead wound up with two weedout classes, I may end up searching for something else. (I always wanted to take AP Psych in high school but never got a chance to. So it is something I’m somewhat interested in, but definitely not a major/minor as of right now.)

if you’re not planning on majoring/minoring in it now, i would suggest probably waiting until you have adjusted to college and take that class (maybe sec. semester?)

oh and stripedpolkadots, you can try to e-mail the teacher to see if s/he will let you in. but since it’s summer, they probably will not be available. my guess is that it probably won’t open up much… sorry wait until you get a better reg. window.

As long as whitefield is teaching it, it’s easy. Like, EASY.

Psy 11 will never turn into a “weedout course” - don’t worry cewolf1. Psych is traditionally one of the easiest majors at Duke (excluding some of the bio-centric cross-listed /neuroscience psych courses). I’ve taken five psych classes, and all have been easy. There is no need to weed people out of psych. Econ? yes. Pre-med? Yes. Engineering? Yes. Sociology, psych, women’s studies, african american studies? no.

Thanks bluedog! That’s kind of what I was hoping/thinking.
