Hello, everyone.
I am a psychology major who wants to know what are the chances of getting accepted into
a master’s program either at UTRGV, UTSA, or
UC Santa Cruz. I am minoring in art as well.
I have an overall GPA of 3.57, a psychology GPA
of 3.87, and one year of helping one professor with her research. I started helping another professor as well, and another one asked me whether I wanted to volunteer. I said yes, and then he told me to go to his office soon to talk about it.
I plan to do a poster (maybe another one), and my professor liked my idea. She even told me that I had some “great thinking there”.
If I get straight A’s on my next and last semester, I will get a 3.60 overall GPA.
I also belong to Psi Chi, and I began to study for my GRE, and plan to keep doing so.
So, I checked the averages for the master’s in psychology of the universities I mentioned above, and for UTRGV it varies a lot, so it is not worthy of mention (I currently am an undergraduate there). At UTSA, they really take into account the GPA for your last 60 credit hours (I have straight A’s in my last 60 hours), and the average they mention at their page oscillates between a 3.50 and a 3.80. Their GRE average admitted scores are in the upper interquartile range. At UC Santa Cruz, the average GPA of admitted students is a 3.44, but their GRE averages are much higher than the ones for UTSA. Their program is actually a doctorate’s, and you get your master’s along the way.
I am also applying to the university where I currently study.
So, what are my chances?
