I'm really interested in majoring in psychology, and it's "up in the air" right now if whether or not I want to try to pursue a Medical Degree.

My GPA is 3.45 unweighted, and 3.95 weighted, but I am also in all IB/Honors Classes at my high school. I don't do many sports but I bowl and I am a devoted art student. I belong to LitMag and the Best Buddies programs, as well as take care of my physically/emotionally disabled family on a daily basis.

I'm presently looking at the best colleges in NYS to major in psychology, esp. if it has a doctorate program.

Can you please help me decide which are the best colleges, that I'm capable of getting accepted to, in NYS or close to it, that are good for majoring in psychology (in order to obtain a PhD) and possibly go to Med school after that?

Psychology is one of the most common majors, and any school with a liberal arts program would have it. It would probably be more important to go to a "good" school with an "alright" psych department than to go to an alright school with a "good" psych department.

Best schools in NYS:
SUNY Binghampton
SUNY Stony Brook
SUNY Buffalo
Vassar
Barnard
Cornell
NYU
Fordham
RPI
Bard
Skidmore
Sarah Lawrence
Yeshiva
Syracuse
Union
U of Rochester
Colgate
Hamilton

In subjective rank order:
Cornell
Columbia
U of Rochester
Colgate
Vassar
Hamilton
RPI
Syracuse

kcirsch overlooked Columbia I think.

You should dual major in Psych and Bio. Take lots of math and statistics. Get a very high gpa. Prepare hard for the MCATS or GREs. Plan on getting a PhD if you don't get into med school. PhD programs in clinical psych are harder to get into than med school.

Clark in Mass is an "alright" school, but I hear it has a great psych dept. Depending on your rank and SATs, NYU, Columbia, U Rochester (big premed population), Vassar, Bard, Skidmore, Colgate, Union (safety) might be worth looking into. These are all very different schools though. What else are you looking for? Do you want a university or a LAC?

Don't choose a undergrad school based on its grad program. At least for med-school, it is often easier to get in from another school than from their undergrad program.

RPI is good for cognitive pyschology

Oop i forgot the best school in NY!
