Psychology major?

Alright, here's my problem.

I'm currently attending my first semester of community college. I've decided that I want to be a psychology major (counseling psychology).

When I first planned to go to a CC, it was because I wanted to transfer to a UC after 2 years. Then, I decided to be a psych. major. When I talked to a teacher of mine, she said that UCs are only good for research psychology because they focus more on the sciences...and that I should attend a CSU instead if I'm interested in counseling/clinical work.

What do you guys say?

The thing is--it seems like a waste of my time if I decide to go to a Calstate now, because with my grades from high school, I know I could have just gone straight to a CSU without having to deal with all this transfering/extra classes...

Opinions and advice please!

The UCs are research schools, but that doesn't mean some of them don't also have excellent counseling programs. Look at each one specifically and you should get an idea of where the focus is.
