Misc.
I'm halfway through a CTY Linear Algebra course, so I'm going to finish that this summer and take Differential Equations.
I run year round. My 5K time is 16:40 on a grass/dirt course. My school doesn't really have a great distance running program, so my coach just let me do my own thing in XC. I'll probably stress this in the recruiting forms, because I'm sure I could be a lot better with decent coaching.
I might wrestle next winter and not run track (I'm not good at short distances anyway, so I'd just use the time to train for XC).
I got some award for writing sophomore year (1 given out per grade) and one for math this year (1 per class).
And I'm going to get a part-time summer job in a few weeks.
And I don't know if this matters, but I've been teaching myself to play blues guitar.
I'm Hispanic

Overall GPA 3.37 (school didn't count freshman grades prolly cuz block schedule changed so much)

I was put on probation winter of freshman year for fighting and winter of sophomore year for accumulated concerns (there's a lot more to the story, which I'll explain in the statement).

My courses next year will probably be
AP Chem
AP Bio
AP Language and Comp
AP Economics
Genetics & Ethics
Asian History (maybe AP Euro)
Topology
Topology will an independent study course.

Schools I'll probably apply to:
MIT
U. Rochester
UC Berkeley (legacy)
Harvey Mudd
Johns Hopkins
NYU
Tufts
Claremont Mckenna
Northeastern

I haven't really thought enough about safeties yet, but I'll get to it.
Thanks!

GPA kinda low. SAT is pretty decent. Good extracurriculars!
Those are good colleges, so not completely sure. Maybe you have a chance at some of them because of your extracurriculars.
I don’t know about your chances at the colleges so sorry because I’m not really answering your question. I’d just suggest maybe doing community service, thats very important

Well, you are an URM which gives you an edge. And actually, I disagree with berkely1 (sorry!). While community service is great, it’s a little too late to start doing them now. Colleges would know that you are doing them to pad your resume. You could obviously still do them, but it’s better if you had a track record of community service. Your GPA and ECs are a little on the weak side…but if you can pull up your SAT, you’d look awesome.

Are you now entering your senior year? I didnt really pay attention to that, so I didnt see that. Yeah, I suppose though its a bit late now.

It wouldve been a good thing if you had done that!

A summer job or internship would be a good last-minute thing to do though! Or any of those summer volunteer or study abroad or leadership type programs, if you can find one that you can still get into. For most deadline has probably passed, but maybe you can find something!

MIT - High Reach
U. Rochester - Match
UC Berkeley (legacy) - Reach
Harvey Mudd - Reach
Johns Hopkins - High Reach
NYU - Low Reach/Match
Tufts - Reach
Claremont Mckenna - Reach
Northeastern - Match/Safety

The rigor of your coursework is pretty exceptional, but your gpa, while respectable and more than adequate for lots of goods schools, is pretty low for most of the schools on your list. If your courseload is typical at your school you probably stack up pretty well though and colleges probably are aware of the rigorous academics. That, plus being hispanic and the overall strength of your ec’s may make your reaches a bit less reachy. I wouldn’t say you should abandon all hope relative to your reaches, but you should probably find more schools in the U. S. News ranked 30-50 range. I do think you sound like a Berkeley kid (maybe not a surprise if you’re a legacy!)–just a sort of gut feeling.

bump…

Northeasterns a match…you cant call that school a safety i had better GPA and same boards and i was denied.
