I understand that many university students (actually their parents!) now buy books on the internet and save a ton of $$...

How would the student know what text he needs (before his first class) & any suggestions on how best to accomplish this?
thanx

Personally, I just email whoever the instructor is. Sometimes I don’t get a response until shortly before the semester begins since the instructor may not check their email between semesters. If there is a more efficient way to do this, I would love to know :)

Actually, there may be a better way to do this. The FSU Bookstore website seems to have a form that you can fill out and get the textbook name:

efollett;

You can view what materials are required for your classes in Blackboard.

Log in to Blackboard (campus.fsu.edu)

Click on Secure Apps

Click on “My Class Schedule”

Select the Term you want (for example, Fall 2012)

Click on the link that says “Buy Books” (it’s located between where it lists your current standing and major and your actual class listing and schedule)

Click Okay or whatever on the pop-up that appears (if one appears)

You will end up on the FSU Bookstore’s website, with a list of the classes you are registered for and what materials are required.

You can go from there and look up your books on Amazon or elsewhere. Keep in mind though that some books may only be available on campus or at places like Bill’s Bookstore next to campus, especially lab manuals. Some classes may also not have anything listed as required.

“Buy Books” is always grayed out for me.

That is bizarre. I’ve never had any issues with that link. You can’t click on it or anything?

You can also click on the section in the course lookup and there is a list of books needed and a link to the bookstore.

(oops!-forgot I posted this in July before I went out of town, and just now posted same question) thanks to those who answered! I will follow up…
