Okay....i checked on collegeboard and they say that the acceptance rate is 85%...can this ? Do they actually accept 85 percent of their applicants? Can someone compare their acceptance rate to one of the UCs and the level of difficulty of how hard it is to get in (please compare it to one of the UCs)? I want to major in engineering. If i want a solid application and a sure shot of getting in what should my sat scores be, my unweighted gpa is a 3.5~3.6 will a average score of 650s~730s suffice?

A lot of good schools in the midwest don't have high acceptance rates since they don't get many applications from students currently living on the coasts.

Also, keep in mind that a school like Purdue will have a lower acceptance rate for its engineering and business schools (the two best schools at Purdue) and higher acceptance rates for the other programs.

Even so, the levels to get in aren't that tough. About a 3.4 UW GPA and 1750-1800 SAT I score should do it if your ECs are okay and you show you really want to go there (they don't like being a safety for other engineering schools). So yes, the scores and GPA you gave would mean that you should have no problem at all with admission.

P.S. If you are planning on going here, I strongly suggest you visit. Some people don't like how rural the setting is--others love it and enjoy how friendly all the people are in Indiana. Go and decide for yourself.

what is the average admit rate for engineering at purdue?

Well, I don't think they put out the exact numbers--but my son was admitted to the Business program there--and it was mentioned to him during their "Purdue's-For-Me" program that the admission rates differed quite a bit from major to major.

Here's some stats:

P.S. Purdue's a great school, but my son decided that he preferred Indiana University at Bloomington's finance program. He'll be flying there in August to start his college education.
