So i just received acceptance letters from Purdue And GaTech. Im really interested in Aerospace Engineering and have applied to most of the schools that have good programs. Purdue and GaTech were top of the list for me. i'm kinda stuck now though because, while GaTech may be a higher ranked school, i've heard about how its social life is ehh. Purdue, is slightly below GaTech, but looks like you can have fun and of course a 60-40% guy to girl ratio is better than GaTech's. I understand that I am also going into engineering which itself is rigorous. Any suggestions? Particularly from those who go to either of this school. any insight to student life with an engineering program would be great. thanks!!

Gt ftw .

Have you visited each? Purdue is much more “campus” like than GT. But Atlanta is a vibrant active city. How do you feel about weather? Southern girls vs midwest? Options other than engr? Cost?

Either would be a good choice; only you can decide which is best for you.

wow that’s a tough call, Georgia Tech has a slightly higher reputation but Purdue has a slightly better on-campus life in my opinion. I would go to the school you’re more happiest/comfortable in this situation.

Have you been to GT? The campus is not urban looking.

The reputation difference for AE is more than slight, and GT has a better social life.

Georgia Tech has the #2 AE program while Purdue is in at #4, not a huge difference.
Not going to argue with the social life since I’ve visited Purdue and only heard about Georgia Tech from people I know going there. I think both are pretty similar though for stuff to do on campus. Just depends what type of environment you prefer, warm + city, or less urban + cold

How would they be compared for chemical engineering program?
Also, which school provides better job opportunity?

Well, if co-op and internships are your thing, GT is where you want to be.

Georgia Tech is better for chemical engineering but again both Georgia Tech and Purdue are the best for anything engineering. Georgia Tech does have a large co-op program as huskies said.

What qualifies you to make any comment about this at all? The schools have very different reputations, are treated differently by employers, and attract different hiring companies. Yes, there is a big difference.

they are very close. honestly, the only way you will know for sure is by visiting both.

GP Burdell, your company may focus on hiring Georgia Tech students rather than Purdue students but in reality you should get an excellent job by attending both universities, maybe just with each having different companies recruiting at different schools. This is what I mean by not a big difference.

Lockheed does not value GT grads over Purdue for aerospace. I do not believe RTN or BA does either.

Purdue has a great national reputation, and GT has a great national reputation. For a job in the South GT will probably get the edge, and for a job in the midwest Purdue will probably get the edge. It’s not a very big difference though, GP’s homerism aside.

Honestly, both schools are great. You should definitely visit both and decide based at least partially on that. Both schools have a great reputation. Both have great opportunities after graduation and top notch programs. People are right that GT has a slightly better reputation than Purdue (despite the large disparity that G.P. seems to believe there is) but even that is largely regional and has a lot to do with what subfield of aero that you go into. For example, GT’s ASDL is second to none, but Purdue has a somewhat better rep when it comes ot the thermal fluid sciences. Really, just visit the two and see where you feel the most comfortable. You will have a great school either way.

Purdue can possibly make a claim to be better than GT at Aerospace Engineering. Look at their alum: 22 Astronauts (including Neil Armstrong!!!)…they’ve handed out the most AE degrees ofany US institution.

That is a pretty dumb argument. Vizio sells more TVs in America in a month but that doesn’t make them better than Samsung. Quantity does not equal quality. That said, Purdue is a quality school.
