Hello,
My DD plans to be a Vet. She is choosing between Purdue (as a Vet Scholar) and UIUC Animal Science (as a Chancellor Scholar and JBT Scholar). She is very fortunate and realizes both of them are great opportunities. With scholarships, Purdue out of state is about double the cost. We can afford it but want to make sure she makes the most educated decision. The guaranteed admission to the Purdue vet school seems to be the obvious answer. However, we’re not sure if it is as big an issue as it seems and UIUC feels like a great fit for her.
If anybody can offer information or experience with either one (or both!), that would be wonderful.
Thanks!!
If she would change her mind about vet school, where would she prefer to be?
Would the OOS cost at Purdue mean there’s little money ledt to pay for vet school?
What have the pre-vet advisors at UIUC told her about success in vet school admissions? Of the students who do apply, how many are getting in?
Thank you for the post. Good questions…
From what we know thus far, the UIUC ACES college might be the best fit if she changes her mind. Planning to talk to both schools to investigate further.
Vet school cost will be an issue and require loans regardless. I don’t think the difference is a huge factor right now, fortunately.
Regarding UIUC vet school acceptance - Initial conversations indicated that 85% of the UIUC undergrad to UIUC Vet School applicants will get in. Promising, but no guarantee.
We were hoping someone that actually took part in the Purdue Vet Scholar program or the UIUC ACES college might be able to give us some real-world advice…
Thanks again!
