Purdue vs MSU vs - Mechanical Engineering

Hello, Im a prospective mechanical engineer and I was accepted to both of these colleges recently. While I’m directly into engineering at MSU, Purdue has me as exploratory studies with a mandatory summer start. The finances for both are pretty similar for me. I’m worried about Purdue because, from what I hear, it can be difficult to transfer into mechanical engineering from exploratory. If I cant test into the mechanical program, I’m worried I’ll be out of luck.

Is this a valid concern? Which would likely ensure the best experience for me?

Purdue normally starts engineering students in First Year Engineering; students then compete for entry to major (3.2 GPA automatic admit, and most majors are not that competitive).

But if you are not in First Year Engineering, the barriers to an engineering major are higher, making it an undesirable choice if you want to do an engineering major.

Having been through 2 years with a D in Purdue Engineering, I’d agree that starting outside of Engineering and transferring in will likely be quite challenging.

Transferring in is what Im afraid of. How hard would you say it is to get all A’s in those FYE classes? I’d have to to transfer into the program

The FYE classes are difficult. As much as I love Purdue, I would tell you to go to the school where you have been admitted to engineering.
