I'm a rising senior and am looking into majoring in biochemistry to eventually go on to veterinary school. Which school would give me a better undergraduate education in biochemistry?

Given that biochemistry job and career prospects are poor, and professional school is expensive, consider whether the lower cost / lower debt choice between these two good schools is the better choice.

Vet schools often give preference to in-state applicants and definitely give preference to students with varied animal science backgrounds. UIUC has an excellent vet school and an excellent undergrad animal science program; if you’re from Illinois, it’s the clear choice. I don’t know what the situation is at Purdue.

Purdue also has a great vet school, and has a very competitive early enrollment program. It also does give preference to instate grads. I would say stick to your in-state option.

Thanks everyone!
