University of Illinois vs. Purdue for a science major?

I'm looking to go into veterinary medicine. Which school would give me the better science department and more opportunities in the pre vet classes? Thanks! Any suggestions are welcomed!

I’ve only ever heard the best from Purdue’s veterinary school! The one thing that I do know is that Purdue’s school if incredibly difficult to get into. Good luck though!

I would say either one of them. As @crudner says, vet schools are very hard to get into. limited seats and not so many schools.

UIUC has an animal science undergraduate program that a D of a friend just completed and was admitted to the UIUC vet school. I don’t know whether Purdue has anything comparable.

I would think for the fundamental science, either would be great.

Both of these schools have acceptance rate over 50%, not sure if that’s the same rate for Vet schools.

This post is a couple years old but appears to have some sound advice:

EDIT: The young lady I referenced in my earlier post in this thread not only had an animal science major from UIUC, where she was admitted to vet school, but also years of experience as an intern with our local vet - who happens to be a UIUC vet school graduate and worked very hard on her behalf to help her get into the vet school.

Thanks everyone! I’m definitely aware vets school is extremely difficult to get into so I’m on The search for the school that will get me the best science degree as an undergrad before I can apply to a vet school in four years. All the comments were very helpful! :)
