self explanatory...How important are AP tests?
I know that a high enough score can count as credit at certain colleges...

Are AP scores included on college applications?
Are there awards/recognitions based on AP scores? (i've heard of AP scholars--what does that entail?)
Are AP tests as important as SAT II's?
What else are AP scores used for?

From what I've heard, AP tests are primarily for credit purposes. I don't think colleges see them when you are applying, but I'm not sure. There are AP Scholar awards for different levels, and a genius 12 or 24 kids every year get the Siemens AP Awards. SAT II's are more important as far as college admissions go.

1) AP Scores can be included on application if you send them in.. They sometimes help if they are good
2) You can get a variety of AP Scholars.. Depending on your scores on AP Exams
3) AP tests test more analysis + information than SAT IIs.. (SAT IIs are easier..)
If a college requires an SAT II, u cannot usually substitute the AP Exam for it..
4) AP Scores aren't used for anything else, unless ur gonna play bingo with them.. lol..

there are several AP scholar awards you can do:

AP Scholar

Granted to students who receive grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams.
AP Scholar with Honor

Granted to students who receive an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.
AP Scholar with Distinction

Granted to students who receive an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.
AP State Scholar

Granted to the one female and one male student in each U.S. state and the District of Columbia with grades of 3 or higher on the greatest number of exams (at least three exams), and then the highest average grade (at least 3.5) on all AP Exams taken.
National AP Scholar

Granted to students in the United States who receive an average grade of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.
National AP Scholar (Canada)

Granted to students in Canada who receive an average grade of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on five or more of these exams.
Department of Defense for Education Activity (DoDEA) Scholar

Granted to the one male and one female student attending DoDEA schools with the highest average grade on the greatest number of AP Exams. The minimum requirement is a grade of 3 or higher on three exams.
AP International Scholar

Granted to the one male and one female student attending an American international school (that is not a DoDEA school) outside the U.S. and Canada with the highest average grade on the greatest number of AP Exams. The minimum requirement is a grade of 3 or higher on three exams.

There's a thread on the old site where some of us researched previous winners...perhaps last June or July? I'm not sure now. Must be in the archives, though.

The general range for winning State Scholar is about six exams (small state) to 15 exams (middling state) to 20+ exams (California), historically. I would guess the Texas winner to be in the 12-16 range, but it varies from year to year, and since the rules just changed this year on half-year courses, the exact number is even harder to predict.

Winning as a Junior is very rare, but good to get if you can.

yea pretty much..
they dont publish exact numbers..

i would say the range is 13-17

South Carolina is a big state.. but w/ very bad schools
Very few schools offer AP and IB programs

but the few good schools have very competitive AP programs with students taking many APs..
unlike california with many competitive schools offering APs.. and the competition being so high... the award is given to someone that took around 20

just study for exams and get 5s..
take more if u can handle it..

How many did u take so far??
did u get all 5s?

half-yr exams only count as .5 AP Credit
(Physics E&M, Mech, Microecon, Macroecon, etc.)

I wouldn't get it. I only have 11. I was just curious. And I've got to defend my state. Only a couple schools have IB, but EVERY high school in the state has at least 1 AP class. That is state law.
