Putting together the application....it's coming too soon.

How do most people do the application? I know a lot of the kids in my school did theirs online, but what is the usual method of getting teacher signatures on the recommendations and attaching anything that is handwritten? I was thinking of filling everything out online and then printing it out (I catch more errors that way), so could someone tell me 1) if this is a good way to go, 2) the way you did it? Thanks a lot!

My d did everything online that she could (some colleges waive the fee if you do).
Our hs has a procedure for doing the counselor forms and transcripts - you filled out the beginning of the forms and brought it into school with an envelope addressed to the college and the hs did the rest and mailed it in too.
I think she sent in supplemental stuff herself so ther would be less chance of the hs losing it...teachers send in the recs themselves...

Oh, okay. I didn't know if colleges liked everything to arrive in one envelope or not. It sounds like teachers do their part and I do the rest.

haha my teachers arent really the most trustworthy beings..many a times have i had my papers lost.

I needed to send transcripts to West Point ( I was being recruited for athletics) and my counselor thought i was a senior for a month before she realized i was only a junior.

Anyone have any tips on dealing with erratic counselors/teachers for applications?

My hs likes to send the whole application together. One girl gave her app to her counselor and she promised it would be sent off on time. She found out that they'd forgotten to do so when she didn't receive a reply from the college.

So I'm gonna do everything myself.

I don't know how I'm gonna do this. Paper work just overwhelms me

Yes I would be nervous letting the school do it all. I am fairly sure they have to send in the transcripts and official stuff directly but if they forget and you at least got the main application in on time I think the college would give you a break.

Also I made a spreadsheet on excel to keep track of it all.

My d applied to many schools and once we started looking at all the different requirements from each school it was obvious that some organization was needed.

Categories were: Pre-application, Application, SATs, ACTs, Transcripts, School Report/Counselor Recommendation, Teacher Recommendations, Parent/Peer Evaluations, Essay, Fee Paid, Mid Year Report, Interview, Financial Aid Application, FAFSA, PROFILE. Most schools let you know as they receive the different paperwork.

It sounds excessive but even with the spreadsheet I was late with one Financial Aid Application (most are due in February and this one was due in January), and d completely missed an interview at another college.

wow i'm gonna be using that setup to keep track

You might want to add a column for Supplement as I see the common ap has many colleges that require a supplement (extra info they want in addition to the common ap)
