Quality of Teaching at Trinity

I assume that teaching and faculty engagement with students are valued at Trinity but would appreciate hearing from current students or grads about the quality of the teaching and interaction between students and faculty -- particularly in the humanities. Also, any info on campus comedy-sports type of performing groups is appreciated. Thanks.

While I can’t exactly tell you much about the humanities department, I can tell you a lot about the faculty at Trinity. I’m a freshman and have only been here for about a month, but I have just been astonished by the faculty. Every freshman takes a first year seminar with the best professors at the school. But all four of my professors are incredibly smart, they make sure you understand the material, but at the same time they are easy going. This keeps me very interested and I actually enjoy what my homework’s about (as crazy as that sounds).

This school also has a lot of comedy-oriented groups. The “Moveable Joints” are the improv group on campus and they are hilarious. I am also doing TrinTV, and am going to be a part of Trinity’s version of Saturday Night Live. The school newspaper also has a humour section which you can write for anytime you like. Lastly, there is always an open mic at either the Vernon Social Center or the Fred every weekend, and they are very well attended.

All in all if you’re looking for a challenge, a great education, lots of 1 on 1 attention, and student organizations as far as the eye can see; then Trinity is the school for you. Trinity also has a great reputation nationally, especially in Boston and New York.

Thanks, theprodigy. Hope you continue to have a great year!

Can i put u as my relatives in my form///

I want to know about the financial aid in Trinity College. Theprodigy1023, please help me!

My daughter is a sophomore at Trinity and takes mainly humanities classes. She raves about the professors at Trinity, especially some of the religion, history, and english professors. Her classes are all very small to medium sized which is great considering she is only in introductory or 200 level classes so far. She finds the lectures engaging and is intellectually stimulated. The vast majority of her professors are regular staff rather than adjuncts.

She also finds the teachers are incredibly friendly and willing to work with students to help them excel. Teachers are accessible and will often read papers and comment before they are due. Since Trinity is dedicated to undergraduate teaching the students are actually taught by experts in their fields and not by graduate students. Some classes have an upperclass mentor assigned to them and their role is to run review sessions, read draft papers and comment, and help organize field trips. This is a great asset.

Trinity seems to have some research and grant money available to students in humanities for term time and summer academic research work. This is great because some schools only have science oriented research opportunities.

Finally, the freshman seminar program is wonderful. Trinity pioneered this concept in the seventies. Students take a course first semester of freshman year with a teacher who has chosen an especially engaging topic and wants to work with a small group to create an exciting, engaging learning experience. The bonds that form between students in these small seminars are long lasting.

The quality of teaching is very high at Trinity. My child is thrilled with the excellent academics and the caring faculty.

I just read that according to a Harvard survey Trinity has exemplary tenure-track faculty job satisfaction. Happy professors=great class experiences for the students!

I do know that the interdisciplinary science program allows students to do in depth scientific research over the summer and the program is very popular with science majors.

I graduated about 20 years ago but can vouch for Trinity’s fine faculty. Many of the profs I had are still there, still concentrating their main efforts on educating undergraduates. Professors do research and write, but their hearts are really in mentoring students and making their classrooms invigorating academic spaces.

Trinity’s Center for Teaching and Learning just got a $1.5 million gift! Trinity is dedicated to excellence in undergraduate teaching and this gift will enhance the professors’ continual development of best teaching practices. Recent professional development was devoted to enhancing teaching with new technologies.

I am a current Trinity student and could not be happier with the faculty at Trinity. While I have had a couple of teachers I did not like, by enlarge the faculty at Trinity is as good as any school could hope to get. The teachers are highly motivated, very engaging in class, quite demanding, but always available outside of class. Perhaps most importantly however is that every teacher I have come in contact with at Trinity wants to see students succeed and will go to great lengths to ensure they do, including on some cases coming in on the weekends to provide extra help with homework and for test review.

I cannot tell you how wonderful the professors have been at Trin! My daughter will be a senior next year :(! She tested out of french levels …so she was required to pick up a new language, and she chose Italian…her freshman seminar 1st choice on the list (it changes every year) was Italian Culture and she got it! Fantastic professors…!!! small classes, involved students…also incredible Rome campus and classes for fall semester Junior year…trips to Hartford hidden gems that serve wonderful Italian food…She has a A+ in Italian Language and an A in Italian Cinema, that is all due to the fantastic support of Trin and her dedication to excellence by living in the library!! ditto Art History! The Winter Ecology course was hands-on, involving trips to the woods or a boat trip on the Conn River to observe…she did not get an A but learned a ton!!!
