<p>Does anybody know - when Cal Poly says “quarter units,” do they mean per credit? It’s an additional $248 OOS tuition per quarter unit as according the their website and I’m not sure what it’s referring to. </p>
<p>Yes, it means per credit. So if you’re taking a 4 unit class, it would be an additional $992 for that class since you are out of state. I was out of state at Cal Poly. Out of staters pay about three times as much as in staters. </p>

<p>15 credits per quarter. or $11,000.00 per year extra. OOS residents have a better shot at acceptance for EA. OOS residents have a better shot at the $2500 “out reach” award in RD. If your stats are on the lower side, go ED (that is if your heart is set on CP SLO). </p>
<p>@AP99654: The minimum number of units you need to be enrolled as a full time student is 12 units/quarter. This generally means three classes, but can vary, since there are also some classes that consist of up to six units, and some that are only one unit. Most full time students enroll in 12-18 units a quarter. It’s not really advisable to take more than 18, but I’ve known of people trying to complete up to 22 units in a quarter. People typically shoot for around 16 units/quarter in order to stay on track, but you may be ok with taking less than 16 if you have a lot of AP credit. </p>
<p>The quarter system generally does result in students taking more classes and a greater variety of classes, simply based on the fact that you go through three rounds of class registration and finals each school year on the quarter system vs. two on semesters. That being said, students on semesters often take 5-6 classes a semester, since material is spaced over a longer period of time it is easier to balance a greater number of classes. Material comes at you much faster on the quarter system, and it’s not unusual to have the first round of “mid-terms” as early as the third week of class, so most students take 3-4 classes a quarter.</p>
