Questbridge - 2007-2008

I recently received this e-mail (shown below) from a Questbridge representative.

Could someone please give me an idea f what Questbridge is like?
Based on the e-mail, I am assuming that I am a finalist? But the wordings are a bit confusing? Could someone clarify my doubts please?

Also, what are the benefits from being a finalist in this programs?

Thanks in advance!

" Hi there,

My name is XXX and I am a QuestBridge staff member. I am getting in contact with you because Notre Dame has expressed interest in your application for the African American Seminar to take place July 8 to July 14. Essentially, you are finalists. To continue this process, you must submit additional paperwork:

Fill out the attached application (application fee is waived)

Letter of recommendation (you may use the same recommender/recommendation, address it to Notre Dame)

A copy of your transcript

A copy of your standardized test scores

On the application, please write somewhere that you are a QuestBridge applicant.

Please send to:
University of Notre Dame
Office of Pre-College Programs
202 Brownson Hall
Notre Dame, IN 46556

Please also fax your paperwork to: xxx

You want to at least have faxed your paperwork in by this Friday. The Notre Dame program is highly competitive and this process has been expedited to choose their final students quickly.

If you have any questions pertaining to the summer program, you may call Notre Dame directly at xxx or email at xxx.edu.

Best of luck to each of you.

XXX

Please do not post personal and confidential information

BUMP! Anyone?

I think you might be a finalist for the summer seminar at Notre Dame. I would take the offer!! good job!

did you apply for the program?

QuestBridge is a program that links bright, motivated low-income students with educational and scholarship opportunities at some of the nation's best colleges.

www.questbridge.org

I would jump at that opportunity.

Thanks for replying westcoastlove. I actually applied for Questbridge, and they work with Notre Dame along with several other top colleges. I hope I am a Finalist with Questbridge! That would be far more satisfying! I think I will call Notre Dame's office today because I was advised to have my application turned in by Friday; however, I won't be at school until Tuesday! Spring Break ;)

Ugh, they are already sending out emails? God, I must not have gotten picked. This sucks :/ Has anyone else received emails?

On another note, congratulations to the OP.

Aww, murky. Don't get down on yourself. You find out if you got chosen on April 20th (my birthday :D). No one knows for sure yet if they have gotten chosen. But I think this e-mail is very telling.

Thanks, btw.

Rosh420, it's just that I spent a lot of time on my application. Gah, it just seems unfair they would notify some people and not others. This is what I hate about these programs.. it's sort of like sending out likely letters. I just hope I get picked. I put a lot of work into my application.

Thanks.. :)

Aw. I'm sure you will get in. Don't fret! Did you turn in your recommendation letter yet? I haven't? I told them I wouldn't be able to until April 11th, despite the April 7th extension deadline, and they said "fine." I turned in my application a few minutes before the deadline. I really wish I had put more effort into it. My essays blowed. I hope it doesn't end up biting me in the ass.

I turned in all my recommendations before the 30th.

What? I thought the recommendations were due by the 7th. This is ridiculous, they shouldn't even be able to offer you finalist status if you haven't done the requirements.

Wow, I'm freaking mad. I'm sure if someone was accepted to Princeton without taking SAT II tests, everyone would be freaking mad. But it's okay for this program, since you just called them up and told them you couldn't do it.

Yeah, I shouldn't continue. I could go on and on about how unfair this is.

Oh well. I guess they like me. Just kidding.

i had very good reasons for my extension though ;).

Don't even joke around about that. There were other people that spent more time on their applications and didn't "blow off" their essays, and if you got in over them, I feel extremely sorry for them. I will feel extremely sorry for myself if that happens to me.

I didn't exactly "blow" them off. I just could have done better. My essays were touching, and it was from the heart. I have been through a lot so I am sure that made quite an impression.

I just think I could have written more "eloquently," but I guess they aren't quite exactly looking for "eloquence."

You shouldn't be worried. I am sure you got in if you put in a lot of time and effort as you claim.

ya I agree with murkywater. I worked sooooo hard on the essays and stuff. :(

Guys, guys, you should relax a bit. Take a look at the calendar ... the review of the applications has just started. In case you missed it, the QB staff was reacting to the inquiry of a partner school for a specific program. Not all partner schools share the same agenda and criteria.

You've got to trust the system and allow some time to pass.

westcoastlove, hopefully we won't get shafted in this process. Maybe we'll both win the scholarship? Who knows. :)

Thanks xiggi. I guess it does make sense that some people were notified earlier because of a specific program. I definitly didn't sign up for the program at ND, so I guess it makes sense that I wouldn't have gotten an early email.

I guess we'll have to wait until April 20th!

lol murky. I think I got an e-mail because I am African American. I actually just got a call from a Questbridge Staff member, but I missed the call. How unfortunate. :(

lol, hey guys, relax :) last year, i was quite surprised i even got offered one of the top awards (i was only hoping for a laptop!) but yeah, i blew off the essay and did it in 15 minutes.. it was neither eloquent nor good.. but i guess it had good content. but anyways, best of luck to all of you! QB has a lot of opportunities and offers.. even if you may not get a college prep award, they offer visit programs to some of the top LACs in the nation!

Thanks x3rose. It's so hard to be patient, however :)

haha murkywater, ya I hope so too!!!! How many prep-scholarships do they offer each year anyway? ~20?

x3rose, did you do the match program too? where did you go for summer?
