Questbridge College Prep Scholars 2017 Applicant Thread

So how is everyone’s biographical essay going. I feel like they are chasing a sob story or something, and i dont really have anything extraordinary to talk about.

@kassh4 If you search on youtube, there’s a video of a girl reading her biographical essay. I think the common theme is that they want to see how well you overcame an obstacle no matter how big or small. If you write a sob story, they just know that you have problems instead of being assured that you know how to work through them.

Less than 2 weeks left till March 22nd. How’s everyone doing with their applications?

@solarsystem
My brother is about 90% done. Long application. Now working on the Financial forms. How are you doing?

@solarsystem 6 short answers and a whole biographical essay still. Rip.

Bruh I live in the middle of corn fields. idk how my home state has positively influenced me.

@kassh4 I suggest talking about the importance of agriculture, etc.

I just turned in my application! I am cautiously optimistic.

Did you guys write until you hit the limit on all of the short answer?

My brother did not in all cases.

If possible could a college prep scholar alumni please contact my email, I have some questions about the application process and my chances etc,

As I’m filling out the application I feel kind of hopeless. My family income is really low for me to go to college, but previous Questbridge scholars gave me an impression that everyone is single-parent, first-gen which I’m not.

@HappySquirrel
Don’t get discouraged trying to anticipate the final results of the selection process. Completing the applIcation will yield benefits independent on wether you are selected or not for prep scholars program. Shakeoff that feeling and proceed to complete/submitt your application.

@IfnousWHO Lol I’m in the same situation with @kassh4 with my essays still needing to be done. I have spring break so I’ll have this whole week to write and edit them. I also don’t really know what to write about with my home state because I’ve moved numerous times, so even though I’ve lived in this state most of the time, idk how it really affected me.

Also when do decisions come out?

@solarsystem Based on last years thread looks like they got the results back in a month. Idk if the deadline was the same but the first post regarding results is 4/22.

So I just found out that there’s a supplemental section for applying to the summer programs through the Quest for Excellence award. Did anyone else already know this?

@solarsystem Are you referring to the STEM and Arts short answers?

Edit: nvm I see what you are talking about. I didn’t see it till just now because i didn’t plan on going to any of them because of scheduling conflicts, but turns out I can make it to a few of them. Well looks like I’ve got more writing to do.

Anyone know how many kids are matched to each school? I’m looking through the website and at the bottom of every college there is a picture, and I haven’t really seen any college with more than 20 kids matched. That seems like it is really low.

lol nvm I just saw emory and it has like 40, but then duke has 4

@kassh4 Yea I’m pretty sure it depends on the school. Like I’ve noticed a lot of ppl match to like Princeton for example, but little to like Caltech

@solarsystem Cal tech has 5. I think Emory and Pomona have the most.
