Saying I join the 90% of finalists who don’t win the scholarship, does just being a Questbridge finalist give me any weight in the regular admission process? I didn’t expect to get this far(surprised?) so either way I see this application as a win, but it sure would be nice to get a little extra for all the work if it all ends without the trophy(i.e. admission and scholarship)…

am i able to revise and edit the common app for RD if i am not matched? how about the supplements, or rather, the QB supplements for schools like penn and rice?

i wanted to write a new essay for the common app, too. i dont want to rush out the writing process and be stuck with it for RD.

If you send an app to a school and you’re not matched then no. But you can create multiple apps for multiple schools on the CA.

Yeah I’m in the same boat. Bluetaco2012, what did QuestBridge say? Can I just go on to regular decision or must I do the college match process?

Their exact reply was…

“You may remove all of the schools you ranked and not participate in the match if you wish. However, if you’re really interested in the schools you ranked, I would keep them on your rankings list and submit all additional required materials in order to be considered for the match. There is still a chance you could be matched at these schools. If you’re not matched, you will be able to apply to these schools (and any of our other partner schools) for the Regular Decision process. Please keep in mind that not being matched is not the same thing as being rejected by the schools on your rankings, and that many students who apply to our partner colleges for Regular Decision receive very generous financial aid packages.”

I don’t understand why they said “there is still a chance you could be matched with these schools” when it says on their website that ONLY US citizens and permanent residents are eligible (except for the previously mentioned four)…??

I’m still going through with the college match round and everything (getting all my papers together and sending stuff of tmrw!), but I’m confused by what they mean… ?

oh and Star118, do you know which other schools will match non-US citizens and non-Permanent residents??

well I’m applying to
Yale
Princeton
Dartmouth
Columbia
Uchicago
MIT
Amherst
Williams

the only one i know for sure will not review my application is MIT they sent me an e-mail saying so. the rest of them will review the application but will probably take citizenship status into consideration.

wow… I didn’t know you can do that so I only ranked Yale, Princeton, Pomona, and Brown… I didn’t rank Dartmouth, Amherst, or MIT (even though I knew they were need-blind even to non-citizens/residents) because when I asked Questbridge, they said that only the 4 schools would consider my application in the Match process.

Star118, did you email all the individual schools you ranked and asked whether you will be considered for the match (early) round for sure?

I didn’t email the schools asking them individually but they haven’t told me otherwise so I’m guessing they’ll review the applications.

I don’t know why Questbridge only stated those four on their website. I was originally going to rank those four only, but then I looked at Dartmouth’s FAQ and they stated that they do not take citizenship into consideration. Being the skeptic that I am, I contacted basically all of them, and others also consider you regardless.
The other ones were:
Dartmouth
Emory
Wesleyan
Amherst

I did not contact University of Chicago, for I though they were a science school, such as MIT, which doesn’t even have the major I want. So I’m not too worried.
I have a good feeling about Emory, and I’m so glad that Brown is looking at my application.

I just contacted a bunch of colleges today as well as Questbridge.
Questbridge said that I cannot rank more colleges because they forwarded all the applications already, and apologized for the wrong information. They said they will fix everything for next year -__________-

Amherst, Dartmouth, UChicago, and Wesleyan does consider international students. However, Dartmouth told me that they’re not explicitly part of the 4colleges because they mainly focus on domestic students in the match round. So I guess unless you are this super international student, there really is no chance of getting matched with Dartmouth.

There goes my extra four spaces to rank colleges…

thanks for the info guys. really appreciate it :)

Williams called me back today saying that they don’t consider international applicants in the Match round… I’m sorry for those of you that ranked Williams… Hopefully, next year students will have more accurate information.

So how many internationals became finalists? And are you guys like never lived in America? Or like lived in America internationals? I was just curious :)

I’m an international finalist. I live in America right now at this moment. lol

So I found out about QuestBridge not too long before the deadline. I literally wrote my essays in two weeks… I also submitted my application at 11:59
Somehow I became a finalist. Now that I’m looking over my application, I see I made a bunch of little mistakes on my essays! Some sentences aren’t grammatically correct. I can really make my essays better. They just didn’t go through a lot of revision (one of them wasn’t revised much at all).
I can’t change anything anymore, right? Some schools like Pomona require you to forward your QuestBridge application and I’m pretty sure those mistakes spell rejection. What should I do? Is there even anything I can do?

When I called Pomona, they said that Questbridge Finalists can submit the common app if students feel that the common app represents them better. So if you have the time, submit the common app (with the revised essay), and make sure Pomona knows you are Questbridge Finalist.

Does anyone know how to get an alumni interview for Pomona and Brown? Are Questbridge Finalists allowed to have one?

@laminin: Brown will contact you directly for an interview if you are offered one. If you live in a rural area, you may not get one though. If you don’t, it won’t affect your chances of admission (QB Finalist last year, no interview, accepted at Brown).
