Questbridge National College Match 2011-2012

Did everyone’s teachers/councilor already hand in their recommendations?

They haven’t even started  I think I know who you are choyphin…lol

Someone please answer my question :)

Yes and yes. There is a facebook group called Questbridge Applicants 2011-12 which is a much better source of info than here. Previous QB scholars mentor us and all the applicants post questions like yours. You always get a quick response. Please join! But yeah, they expect you will use the same recs and essays.

Yay, thank you drumwriter22! I shall join today :D

Glad to help! I think you’ll love the page! Let me know if you have trouble finding it.

Haha yes drumwriter, you know exactly who I am!

My school’s secondary school report doesn’t come out until october 1st :frowning: I’m not sure how to indicate this on my application and I don’t want that to affect my chance, so what should I do?

I know this question gets asked a lot, but I really have too much going on right now to search, so…

Will Stanford and the other QB schools that require subject tests accept October SAT Subject tests if I apply through the match program? What about the October ACT?

My son took the October SAT II’s and that was fine. If you’ve already taken either the SAT or ACT once and got a fairly decent score, you should be OK. Otherwise, you may have a problem because Questbridge itself weeds out around half the applicants before announcing the finalists which, I think, is in the latter half of October. I doubt you will make finalist without having a somewhat-acceptable ACT/SAT score on their application.

Yeah, my SAT should be fine for making finalist. It’s Stanford that I’m unsure about, though.

Sebo–I don’t think any scores guarantee someone that they’ll be a finalist. There are so few finalists chosen that I have to believe that they are looking far beyond just scores in picking their finalists.

Some people were asking about sending score reports and transcripts, I hope this quote from the FAQs help:

A: Recommendations should be completed on our website. You will need to register your recommenders’ information in your online application before the recommendation form can be completed. You will then be able to print out instructions to give to your teachers and counselor on how to fill out the online recommendation. Your teachers and counselor should fill out the recommendation forms following the directions provided in the instructions form.

If your recommenders would prefer to submit their recommendations via fax, you can download a Recommendation form with fax cover sheet from the teacher recommendations section of your “My Locker” page.

Transcripts and unofficial standardized test score reports should be faxed to QuestBridge by a counselor. Counselors must use the “Transcript and Test Scores” fax cover sheet available in the “My Application” section of your “My Locker” page. Please print this cover sheet and give it to your counselor. Although we prefer an official transcript, if your high school is NOT able to fax official transcripts, we will accept an unofficial transcript, and you can fax this to us yourself if necessary. Test scores reports can be either copies of the score reports you receive in the mail or print-outs from the testing organization website with your scores on it.

Please do not mail these materials to QuestBridge. If you do, your materials will not be processed and your application will be incomplete.

All materials are due September 30, 2011.

I recall last year that a number of applicants with excellent stats didn’t manage to make the cut. I think Questbridge really looks at your essays and how you’ve overcome obstacles in your life to become a better person.

I wasn’t implying any score guaranteed making finalist.

To those with experience with Questbridge: I’m in a good situation with a 3.8 gpa and 29 ACT? Based on those two, would you be comfortable?

is the gpa weighted or unweighted. Well either way, I think the essays and efc are more important for QB’s finalist status than the numbers

Unweighted, with the most rigorous classes available. Yeah, you’re right about the essays and efc. I just wanted to know if I’m in the ‘safe area’

I have a question: If you are NOT named as a finalist, was this two month ordeal all for nothing? Do you receive any fee waivers, or any benefit? Our QB app was submitted yesterday, but I would love to hear from someone who was not named as a finalist, if there was any benefit at all. Yes, I’ve seen the flow chart, but I do not really understand it.

Am I the only one who thinks the short answer question, “How do you spend a typical weekday evening” is freaking obnoxious. whathehell, I spend my weekdays doing homework, studying, and going to work -_____-
