question about 2007 admission

i have a question guys!!!

one of my friends who applied to MIT this year got this later (dated 16th) and the letter was about "conditionally accepted pending final grade reports blah blah blah we are offering conditional admission to MIT."

i don't see her on the guestbook(my.mit.edu) for admitted students and umm my local MIT alumni said only one got in from my school

I would be really happy if she really got in but i will be really upset if she is lying....because she is one of my best friends.

I've never heard of this kind of mail before so i was just wondering if anyone knows about this admission.

Thanks!!

All offers of admission are like this. You have to keep up your grades and if they drop significantly, the offer of admission will be rescinded. However, this rarely happens.

yah i know but my friend just got a letter she didn't get a big envelope and other stuff (certificates etc)

Just curious, how much of a drop until the admission is rescinded?

Most schools ask for at least a 3.0 GPA unweighted (not sure about MIT), but it'd probably be a good idea to get no more than one or two B's. It can't be too hard, seeing as how the student has been admitted to a good college in the first place.

You're confused. You have to "sign" the guestbook in order to be listed in it. All this means is that your friend hasn't gone to the website and signed in. It has nothing to do with pending grades. You should really just trust your friends more.

yeah ur right about that part but why did educational counselor said only one person got in from my highschool???

and the letter (according to my friend) was just one page letter..she didn't get like a thick package with stuff in it.. and exactly! it has nothing to do with the pending grades... that's my point..and i was wondering if MIT did that this year....just "condtionally admitting" someone.....

One of my friends got a conditional acceptance to Washington University in St. Louis, and the other got one for GA Tech. They were for admittance of '08 though, they have to wait a year.
