question about admissions board

How does the admissions board decide when a candidate's package will be reviewed? Is it true that each person's record is brought before the board only once, even if the package is updated with better scores, etc?

My dd's application (grades, class rank, test scores, teacher evals, CFA, BGO, activities record, etc) were all completed by mid-late July. She has excellent academics (see below), but could do better on test scores (is scheduled to re-take) and CFA. Would all this be overcome by events if her package goes before the board in the first round?

grades 4.0 unweighted (was ranked 9 of 219 at college prep school, but is now 6th of 219)
SATs 680M/680V/750W (SAT II Chem 790)
CFA: 35' bb throw
27 sec arm hang (can now do 1 full pullup -> reason to re-take?)
101 situps
39 pushups (can now do 50 -> reason to re-take?)
9 sec shuttle
7:41 mile (she can probably beat this time now)

1 club sport throughout HS (tournament captain for 2 events), played on varsity track team last year and this coming year

Academic team JV captain last year, probably varsity captain this year
NHS, Beta club, French NHS, highly probable National Merit Semi-Finalist

volunteers several places, including one where she is the only under-18 volunteer (was allowed based on maturity during interview)

summer internship for a biotech company, NASS participant, selected for and attended state Governor's Scholar program

It's a rolling admission. According to when her file is completed. If you have improvements, my son was told to submit them by his regional officer. Has she passed her dodmerb physical, yet? Does she need any waivers? That can take time for a file to be reviewed by the admissions board.

She has taken her physicals, and she has been asked for remedials. We thought we had read that LOAs can be sent even if physicals weren't complete (implying that the package would already have been reviewed).

The admissions board starts meeting reguarly starting in Sept.
Since you feel she can do better in several of the events, would not hurt to retake the CFA- understand that it is only graded as "pass-fail"- but would still retake, and if she does, in fact, imporve significantly in those areas you mentioned, resubmit.

Waiting can be hard. Hang in.

Yes, LOA's can be sent, but the remedials need to be completed and passed.

My son took his CFA's twice before he was satisfied with his results.

She sounds like an outstanding young lady!

The Admissions Board meets every Thursday starting in September. Each candidate file is reviwed by the board more than once. If there are changes to a candidate's file, it will be noted in a subsequent review.

Thanks! We didn't want to spend the $$ on multiple exams (ACT/re-do of SAT) if the results wouldn't be considered.

Her scores look great! My son had 600/650m and got an appt fairly early. Not a recruited athlete.

She should probably re-take the CFA as well as the SAT.

According to the CFA instructions, a single pull-up counts more than the longest flexed-arm hang.

And even a 10-20 point rise in her SAT score can vault her 50-100 places up "the list", according to a BGO we spoke to.

(I'm sure if this info is incorrect, someone will be along soon to correct my post.)

;)

^^^^^
The military doesn't expect women to be able to do pull-ups. A 27 sec. flexed-arm hang is fairly good. Although, one pull-up does count more than any flexed-arm hang.

The CFA is graded, not just pass/fail. Any extra points are helpful.

We were told to send updates to admissions throughout the process. It seemed to help. For example, my daughter was featured in a news article for track. Sent a copy in. Things like that. Your daughter's stats look great with maybe the exception of varsity sports for a long time. But, with the club sport (not sure if it was like a select soccer type thing or a club at school) that should help. Our B&G officer told us that the squeaky wheel gets the grease so send in anything that you think could help. Good luck.
